Computer crashing under load

If there is a newer version, yes, I'd update it.

Should support 3600mhz however if the kit isn't on the QVL list it could just be a problem with that kit and the board.

Turns out that the RAM kit isn't on the QVL list for that motherboard. Kind of a bummer, since you'd think a popular manufacturer like Corsair would be supported.
But I guess you live and you learn (to check QVL support beforehand in this case).
Thanks for the tip and have a good one!

Hey guys,

I got a Ryzen 5 1600 (used, but worked fine) from a friend that upgraded to a newer CPU.
Got it in a MSI B450 Motherboard with two sticks of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16 GB RAM in tadem with a Radeon R9 390X.

After installing the new parts, i got random crashes (screen freeze, with a few seconds of load noise from the speakers, then just black screen and silence until i restart).
I wrote that off to my windows install having problems with the drivers, since I changed from intel to amd, so I got a fresh Windows install.
That did stop the crashes from randomly happening, but they still happen under load, like gaming (and very quickly after launching i.e. Witcher 3).
I checked HWInfo and at the time of crashing the CPU is sitting comfortably at around 45 °C.

What's your advice to try out as possible error causes?
Thanks in advance!

The GPU is sitting at similar temperatures and I was already using it with my older CPU (i5-4690K), without any crashes.

Well since it's a different socket, I switched the CPU, motherboard and RAM.
GPU, storage and power supply, as well as case, coolers and stuff remained unchanged.

Did you install all drivers from the motherboards manufacturer webpage? Chipset and other drivers need to be manually installed with AMD and will not be installed by Windows. If you haven't it can cause these types of issues. I'd install all drivers on the manufacturer support page as well as update the bios if it is out of date. Then check for crashing again.

Also the BIOS is from 08/16/2023. Shouldn't be a need to update, right?

Turning off XMP seems to have done the trick. Only tried it for like 10 minutes now, but that's longer than it would've taken to crash before.
Could it be that the CPU (Ryzen 5 1600) can't handle the RAM's XMP speed (3600 MHz)?
