Hi,

I would like to build a small footprint workstation with:

Budget (including currency): +-$1500

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: CAD

Other details: i9, 64 GB RAM, Thunderbolt display capable

Currently running an i7-3630 , on 20GB RAM and GTX670MX on a laptop and performance is OK in 2D, but the laptop is getting old, fans are max and parts start failing.

Thanks for info,

X.

The problem becomes more so the budget, you’d have a pretty finite amount of money leftover for a gpu

A $100 remaining bit to spend is like, a used GTX 1070. Which would still absolutely smash a mobile GTX 670. Though a lot of this will depend on your workload if that matters.

Going with older used stuff can also get you kinda the core range of specs you’re looking for, a used 12900k can be had for around $300 which means your GPU budget is then $300, which is a lot more to work with in that regard.

Also cad is mostly single core so like just getting a high single core chip will more than do. Dont need a i9 for this at all

Thanks for the suggestions. My current setup includes a Thunderbolt display, and the rig should be able to support it (5120x2880 Studio Display).

You should include important requirements in the OP.
