My GPU acts like it has a temperature limit?

Burgerbash

Hi Everyone,

Sorry if this post has been answered before, I'm quite new to this PC stuff and got pointed here if i needed help 🙂

My PC specs are:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core CPU
ASUS® TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WiFi
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 3200MHz
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 Ti
Corsair H115i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB CPU Cooler

I've had my PC over a year now and not really used it for gaming that much (family first and all that) so not really noticed it, but I've started to jump on more and noticed my GPU temp has a "limit" of 56 degrees c

I normally play GTA with all the setting cranked, it doesnt seem to effect the frame rate from what i can tell (150+)

I know this shouldn't be something to complain about but it just strook me as odd as it gets colder than 56 degrees but never hotter, I've tried running Furmark for 20 mins and still stays at 56 degrees

Any help is really appreciated 🙂

Which resolution

GTA is a quite old game, not very GPU heavy nowadays, what I suppose happens is that you're CPU bottlenecked, the GPU only working at 60% max performance

Also GTA engine is frame limited, maybe it's 150 fps 🙂

Try to fire a recent heavy game (CP2077, Alan Wake 2 etc) and check what happens

GTAO, at least, has a FL of 187.5 fps.

2560x1440 🙂

Ahh okay thank you! I'll try that in tomorrow 🙂

I've just ran furmark again for 10 mins and gained a degree! woo!

So, two things... 1) your clock shouldn't be sitting at 465 MHz, that's weird. 2) You should not be hitting 61.3% GPU power, but ALSO be hitting a power limit. What is your PSU and how many power cables do you have connected? Something is fishy here.

This is closer to what I'd expect, where GPU power is near max while hitting power limit.

no there's no such limit.

just an old game that doesn't put a lot of stress on components.

i have games where my gpu doesn't even boost from idle frequency (and temps are around 35c)

Hi sorry for getting back to you so late,

my power supply is CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS 🙂

and I've attached pictures on the connections into the GPU 🙂
