PC in separate room?

Square_

Hi, I'm not quite sure if this is the correct place to post this question but hopefully its fine.
I would like to put my PC in the basement, and somehow use it upstairs? I don't know much about this stuff, or if its even possible.
I tried googling it a bit a few a years back, and from what I remembered, thunderbolt was essential, so I made sure to have that port when I bought this PC.
But from what I understood Thunderbolt is just for your Display? how would I run everything else? keyboard, mouse, speakers, headset, etc etc.

Thunderbolt hub / dock. The kind with USB and displayport on it

But I believe the max length for a regular copper based thunderbolt cables is something like 3 meters. So unless the PC is right in the room under you, the "cheap" solution won't really work.

You will likely need a solution similar to what Linus has if it's a bit further away. A fiber optic thunderbolt cable along with a powered dock.

You can probably find more information in the thread for that video

Or, there's another solution that LTT showcased before

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

ThunderBolt isn't just for display, you can run hubs that pass USB data, network data, etc.. Your issue with ThunderBolt is going to be the length of the runs. Essentially, you are going to need to run fiber optic, the converter (TB->Fiber) of which are very expensive.

Either you go the Thunderbolt route or use Parsec/Moonlight route i think.

Parsec/Moonlight route requires you to have a 2nd PC as the receiver, but yeah it can be just a not high-end SFF hidden somewhere behind the monitor or something AFAIK. Might be limited in terms of fps too compared to thunderbolt route.

Thank you all for the tips! helped a lot, especially the video clips 🙂
Seems like the basement is out, far to long to have a cable that isn't optic, I have to do some measurements, I might be able to drill into the room beside this one and convert that room. should be around 3 meters.
