Which gpu for 1440p or 4K? Nvidia or AMD

g335

Hello,

What would be a good 1440p gpu?  What would be a good 4K gpu?

Also looking for the gpu to be able to do productivity  as well as gaming. Nvidia 3000 or 4000 series But not high end card, no 4090 suggestions.  Not caring about DLSS 3 anything.  Ray-tracing is good.

 Nvidia or AMD.

Looking for something in the low to mid price range.

Suggestions please.

4k Is really only good with 4080/4090 7900XT/7900XTX, and if you want Ray tracing thats mostly NVIDIA as they are far ahead of AMD with that.

You cannot get both Low -mid price GPU AND 4k Ray tracing with good performance. You can see if a used 3080 is available in your price region, otherwise its going to be finding what fits your budget the best.

The lowest budget card that perform decently at 1440p is 6750XT ($370)

For a better experience a 7800XT or 4070(Super), Nvidia having the edge on RT and DLSS

That's $500-$600

System : AMD R9 5900X / Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO/ 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600CL18 ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Eisbaer 280mm AIO (with 2xArctic P14 fans) / 2TB Crucial T500  NVme + 2TB WD SN850 NVme + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD drives/ Corsair RM850x PSU/  Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

Anything from the 3000 series of Nvidia?

Not really

3070 has only 8GB VRAM

3080 either 10 or 12, that's okayish, but they're hard to find at decent prices, and 4070 is better

3090 is expensive and a power hog

Plus 4000 series has better RT and DLSS3.5

System : AMD R9 5900X / Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO/ 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600CL18 ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Eisbaer 280mm AIO (with 2xArctic P14 fans) / 2TB Crucial T500  NVme + 2TB WD SN850 NVme + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD drives/ Corsair RM850x PSU/  Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

3070 works pretty well for me, I have 2 monitors, main one being 1440 and play most games at higher/highest settings

A 4070S outperforms it if I recall, at a much lower price point

Can't find any less than $500, and it's the 10GB model (not enough at 4K)

Until you hit the low VRAM capacity

I won't buy that now with more and more VRAM hungry games

So unless a 3080 or 3090, best to get Nvidia 4000 series?

I'd say the $300 RX 6700 XT (obviously my favorite card, in my "signature" and I have it) is considered 1440p. I usually play Fortnite, CS2, Minecraft, Valorant, etc, and get over 160fps at medium/high settings in 1440p.

Watch my YouTube video starting at 8:16 for full 1440p benchmarks, and 11:28 for the settings I use (165fps cap, shadows/reflections off and everything else on epic)

I love making PCPartPicker lists.

Best to get a 4000 than any 3000 in mid+ ranges, old gen has no advantage

As a note, it runs pretty hot and doesn't handle raytracing that well, so an RX 6800 XT or 7800 XT would be better - but obviously more $$$.

If you want ray tracing at 4k you are going to have to come to terms with dlss , It can't be done in the two big RT games at 4k with path tracing with even a 4090.
