Hello,

I have a question , i got a R7 260X that require 500watt and 12v 24a,

I have a XPS 8300 desktop with 480 watt with 12va-18a 12vb-16a 12vc-8a,

When I turn on my computer the video card's fan will turn on but the screen is not.

It's because of my Power supply or I got a broken video card?

Thanks you.

Most likely not a PSU issue. Test it with a different monitor or Graphics Card.

I agree with this.

I try switch between DVI and HDMI and my monitor say HDMI/DVI not found , and my mouse red light won't show.

i sold my GTX 550 TI .

Seems like a Gpu problem, do you have another monitor to confirm?

the PCIe supported by your motherboard is of little importance. your card is backwards compatible. it could be a GPU problem or maybe a PSU problem. if you have a friend with a good >500 watt PSU with ONE 12V RAIL then test with that. I think the Rail you have your GPU hooked to isn't powerful enough for it. I only buy single Rail PSUs for this reason.

although you are under the 480W limit most of the time, your GPU might be on the 8A rail or sharing the 16A or 18A rail with something else. the 18A rail is only capable of supplying 216 watts, which is a far cry from what your computer needs. ensure that your CPU and GPU are not sharing a rail. you want the CPU on A or B, and whichever isn't CPU to be used for GPU, but that may not even be enough

12V * 18A = 216 Watts

12V * 16A = 192 Watts

12V * 8A = 96 watts

The GPU requires 115Watts so if the GPU is on 12VA then that leaves 101 watts left for the CPU which may not be enough, and if the GPU is on 12VC then it shouldn't work at all, or at least not under load. Im not sure what CPU you are using, but it is likely on 12VA and is using a lot of power if your factory PC came with that big of a power supply. You may need to get another PSU to test this theory perhaps one with a single rail, but I could tell you for sure if you tell me what CPU you have in that PC (the model name, not just the type: i.e. say i7-3770S do not say simply i7 because that wont help me get the exact wattage)

But being on bootup the GPU isnt under much load, therefore it will not use a lot of power, so it *could* be a dead GPU, I would try it in another computer if you can, maybe try another monitor like the others have said, just try your best to troubleshoot the GPU.

i7 2700 or 2600

ok that CPU uses up to 95 watts. so if both the GPU and CPU are on 12VA then that would be 210 out of the *available* 216 watts which is really tight to be honest, and is probably not safe to run it that way on that power supply. but remember this is only if the CPU and GPU are on the same 12VA rail, ideally the GPU is on the 12VB rail with the CPU on 12VA, but Im not sure.

The GPU at idle wont use much power, and neither will the CPU at idle, so the computer SHOULD at least boot up for you so most likely the problem is with your GPU, it could be dead. if you cannot try it in another Computer, you may just have to RMA it. :(

best bet would be buy a new psu something like the seasonic m12ii 520w 80plus bronze and should last you a few years no problem. and just some how make it fit. might aswell buy a new case or something.

psh I would just get a Corsair CX series. even the 430 Watt would work for him, I think it has like 360 watts on one rail which is all he needs

Its very cheap as well, once you do the mail in rebate you can get the CX430 for like $20

I don't know where he live and in my place a cx430w is just 5$ (us converted) cheaper than the seasonic m12ii 520w 80plus bronze.

I recommend base on my experience and on stuff I have personal experience with.

all good I completely understand. I've used the CX430 in a lot of builds (3 to be exact) and never had a problem. all up to the OP's choice :)

I haven't used the cx430 though but I have sold and used a couple of corsair cx500 and cx500m.

they are good actually it might be different on your place but the warranty for the cx500 or 500m at least is only 1 year so far at least in my place the seasonic m12ii 520 and 620 both have 2 year distro warranty. might be different where he is buying  :) .

although if OP could buy a psu and a case together with extra budget I'd normally take those on the higher tier like the corsair ax650 or the 750/860 or the seasonic x760,660, 80plus gold due to the long warranty.

IMHO 5-7 years warranty is a long one should last 2 builds or so if OP decides to upgrade every 2 years or 3.

pretty much his choice.

anyways cx430 or above or the seasonic s12ii or m12ii or above should walk all over his dell oem power supply which pretty much everyone can agree on

Live your life like a dream.

Some people told me that XPS 8300 Desktop desn't support R7 260X,

I figure out that my motherboard have it's own GPU that works,

but when I install my R7 260x and connect 6pin , the motherboard Intel GPU won't even turn on , black screen , HDMI not found.

then I remove the 6pin from R7 260x then the Motherboard GPU start boot WIN7.

so is it a PSU problem?

Also I bought

XFX Pro 550w Core Edition 80 Plus Bronze
Hope that will work

You need to go into the bios and set the pcie-e graphics as the  primary display.
