Unable to find a driver for keyboard+trackpad for my x206h asus laptop

I'm also unable to find a driver for the audio, and it seems the battery needs a driver too (as it is charged, but doesn't stay on when unplugged, although it could be just dead).

 

Please help.

 

I'm on Windows 8.1, I cannot put Windows 10 on the machine, please don't tell me to do that.

Just H, not HA

I tried the Win10 drivers, some of them installed but most of them just failed during the installation.

I am fairly certain that almost all Windows 10 programs should be compatible with windows 11. Could it be that there is an issue elsewhere on your windows installation?

It runs all the way back to XP.

 

But neither a keyboard or battery need a driver, and the touchpad will work without one even if not with all functions... so if those don't work there are likely hardware problems.

I disagree, in the past when installing OSes to laptops, I always needed a driver for it to work inside the OS.

The keyboard fine in the BIOS, but for an OS I often have to download a driver (with the exception of Win10)

It HAS to be windows, and since it's an atom cpu with less than 1000 points on passmark, with 2gb of RAM and 32gb of soldered storage, there wasn't any other choice.

Sounds like Linux would be a good option for you as well unless you just prefer windows.

Could they create a live Linux usb to test if it is a hardware or software problem?

Haha your better off using TempleOs. Regarding your current issue for audio & battery knowing the specs of your machine(audio and battery) would be great. Can you also send a screenshot of your audio device and battery. Since you do have pretty old hardware and depending what you use your machine for I would not recommend Windows or any Ubuntu based distro; The hardware your rocking may not have driver support anymore so your best bet may be using a very light distro like AntiX linux, puppyOS or 4M linux all running the xfce DE for obvious reasons(linux is a good choice since it has a large support for all types of hardware). I would go for 4M linux since it only requires 128Mb of RAM, do note that when installing it from a liveusb it might be a bit slow since the liveusb requires 1500Mb.

There was lubuntu before on the laptop (but I have to put windows on the laptop, otherwise it will become e-waste) and the keyboard and trackpad worked fine.

As for specs: x5-z8300, 2gb of RAM and 32gb of storage.

Thanks, it worked.

 

The battery still doesn't work (but that's not a problem) however the audio is still not working, this time Windows says there is audio (the speaker icon isn't X-ed) but nothing plays. I've downloaded every audio driver at this point...

No, there are no physical switches on the pc that would mute the sound.

Because those programs are more then likely going to break things rather then fix them (and I include SDIO in this group which most people think doesn't break things) when they think that there's a newer version of a driver when said driver isn't compatible with that specific hardware and it STOPS WORKING.

 

If you want drivers, you go to the manufacturer pf the device and not depend on some tool that is likely to get things wrong and ant best require a rollback and at worse a full reinstall of the OS.

Those programs are way more likely to fix things (especially driver issues and missing drivers) than break things.

Also, the tool doesn't override the driver installation and force incompatible drivers to install like you claim it to be.

And there's no reason to reinstall the OS if a driver causes issues. That sounds like something people used to do some 20 years ago.
