Fan hub suggestions

Anyone know of a 7+ port fan hub, preferably one that's controllable from Debian software?

I currently have a Corsiar Commander Pro connected to all my fans because I found a article that explained how to setup proxmox to control the fans (I just never got around to implementing it); however, after a rebuild I am now at 7 fans which is 1 more than my commander pro can support.
I could use a Y splitter but I don't want to do that because I want all of my fans to have PWM control and all the Y splitters I have and have seen won't allow that.
I've been trying to find a 2 - 4 port fan hub from Corsiar but I'm not having any luck, although I am funding RGB hubs of that type.

I want software controlled because I'm hoping I'll be able to run the fans slower (and therefore quieter) than they would be when direct motherboard connected. If I'm wrong in this then do let me know.

If someone knows of a different 7+ port fan hub that's also controllable from within proxmox/Debian then I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know what that is.

I'm not a tech, but it's my understanding that a 4 pin splitter will allow PWM control.

Oh that's interesting. All the splitters I have seen to only be PWM to one fan. At least I think that's the case as I think you need that 4th pin for PWM to work.

The way I understand it is that missing pin is the sense pin, so one has 4 pins and the other has 3 with one missing. It connects to one fan and subsequently controls both fans.

I think having two sense pins might produce a conflict.

But both fans will be PWM controlled.

Both connectors are 4 pin with one connector missing the sense pin but with the power pins with the power being determined by the fan with 4 pins.

Clear as mud?

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. I'd always thought the 4th pin was the one that provided the pwm.

The 4-pin is the "lead" fan. The information will pass from it to the rest of the fans on the same splitter. Because of that, the tachometer signal pin (3rd) is not needed for the additional fans. This can potentially lead to disparate results when you mix fans that aren't identical.

 

A 7-fan hub or repeater, which I've not seen but it probably exists, will function the same way as a splitter, except they are often connected to the power supply via SATA or Molex D. Many fan controllers are the same, although a small number offer individualized control. I've been trying to find one for PWM for any number of fans with no luck. I even emailed 50 companies and found nothing.

 

Barrow has a 16-fan hub that can hand various connectors, although I'm not sure if it handles PWM. One thing, though, its that to plug in fan plugs you'll have to shave a ridge or two off the plug.
