just got a 4090 and go to plug it into my computer loads in then crashed now it is getting stuck at error code 97. if i plug in my old card computer works tried uninstalling windows as i thought it may be a driver issue but still will not post. any advice would be appriciated

 

specs:

msi Godlike z790

i9 

196 gb ram

8 tb nvme

1600 w seasonic power supply

OLD 6800xt

new 4090

 

i can boot into windows when both gpus are connected and am checking if i can update anything from their

you have to replace the amd drivers before installation i think there's a tool for doing this just dont remeber what its called

program is called ddu, not sure that it will fix your issue, but worth a shot. run it in safe mode, i usually select the shutdown for install option. then install the gpu once the pc turns off, boot up(if it lets you) and install the latest drivers.

no need to put the old card in for this, just run it with your igpu.

Its helpful to list what CPU you have so we know if you have an iGPU. "i9" is not a CPU, its a line of CPU's.

Then I would say the 4090 is the issue. Did you happen to try another slot at all? Different display connectors on the card?

Depending on Micro Center's warranty, it's probably within like 30 days or something similar, so you should be good. They might be able to get you a replacement right away.
