The best 2560x1440p Gaming monitor for £700??

Rhyzen

Hello, yes as the title of this topic suggests, I'm looking for a new monitor to buy as my main primary monitor. Has to be 1440p, standard 16:9, 27''.   £700 budget give or take.

Uses:

- Primarily FPS games, so smooth, clear - tear free fast paced first person gaming is my top priority. Then the casual story RPG & MMO's on the side.

- Have some sort of G-Sync or Adaptive-sync to work with my 3080ti.

- Shop in the UK please.

- At least 200+ Hz

- Preferably IPS? As i heard VA can have some issues at higher HZ but again, I'm no expect on monitors.

- No Odyssey G line because I hate the style with the bits around the edges. I'd like a plain clean one to match my other one which is a ROG PG279Q.

Would you guys be able to make any suggestions

The ones I've looked at that seem pretty good but I'm no monitor expert are:

- Philips 27" 27M1F5500P

- BenQ 27" MOBIUZ EX270QM

- MSI 27" G274QPX

I'd go for 3rd gen QD-OLED. Costs 200£ more, but IMO worth it.

https://dell.alienwarearena.com/alienware-doubles-qd-oled-family-with-two-worlds-first-gaming-monitors/

Really seems as almost perfect monitor. "Too bad" that it's 4K though. AW2725DF - could use scaling.

Gigabytr m27q or the m27p

Its great clean and half price whilst literally being direct competition for the others you posted and better than your rog.

You can grt the m27q x if you need 200hz+ for some reason. The difference is so miniscule its not there for 99.99% of people

I'd recommend watching the 1440p section (and possibly 4K section) of this video by Monitors Unboxed (a side-channel of Hardware Unboxed) that goes over the best monitors to buy in Europe at the end of 2023. There are some good suggestions in there.

Of the monitors you listed, they do have a full review of the MSI G274QPX if you want mroe info on that.

When it comes to G-Sync, modern FreeSync monitors are also G-Sync compatible, and Hardware Unboxed only recommends monitors with VRR/adaptive sync support these days, so that won't be an issue with these recommendations.

Yeah with their budget, LCD's make no sense. This is targeting $900 USD so with a £700 GBP budget it might fit.

They asked for the "the best" in that budget range and nothing LCD even comes close.

I'd look at OLEDs, after getting my Steam Deck OLED, it makes me a little sad-face going to my 4K 240Hz, even if that is a really nice QLED panel.

VRR on OLEDs isn't simply, I've got a friend that has a 1440p UW 240Hz OLED and keeps it disabled since he gets knarly flickering. Although, he hasn't experienced any downsides to having VRR disabled. The idea being that the display's response time is so fast that it really doesn't matter if you get a couple of doubled up frames when running below 240Hz.

That 27'' one does look incredible, but as of yet there's no release of it from what I can see. There's a current one that's out called AW2723DF.. Thought's on this one?

I heard that OLED burn in was still a risk at the moment, is this technology free from burn in now? thank you for suggestions

Honestly, the only reason I haven't looked into OLED much is because I last remember it being a worry with burning in. I wasn't aware that this doesn't seem to be as much of a factor anymore?

The AW2723DF isn't even on the same planet.

Are what I linked counted as LCD's? I must admit i've never looked into that. I've only ever gone off of ''IPS, VA, TN'' etc.. whoops

I saw North America on Jan 11th and assumed the UK release wouldn't be close. Countless times I've seen things release in US and not get them in the UK at the same time. If this comes to UK soon then ofcourse, worth me waiting!  & okay gotcha!!

Newer OLEDs have ways to combat it, but yeah, you should be cautious in not leaving it on with a static image for extended periods of time or that its not in an incredibly hot space. If I upgraded to an OLED, I would likely treat it the same as my current monitor which I turn off when I'm not using it. In that case too, I'd likely set a 30min or so timeout if I forget to lock my PC and turn my display off (or shut it down like I do during the weekdays).

Yeah that makes perfect sense! Aslong as It's not a big issue with a little care, I would absolutely go to OLED. I know my TV is OLED but i only use it for movies and that is it. thank you for the help

At around 700£ range there is no sensible middle ground between ~350£ and 900£ monitors in my opinion.

Only sensible ones around 350£ - MSI G274QPF-QD, LG 27GP850(P) or Gigabyte M27Q and perhaps some more...

And the better tier at the QD-OLED I linked @900£ - AW2725DF

I'm waiting for a direct upgrade from my Samsung Neo G8 to jump on a 4K >240Hz OLED, ideally a 32" curved or 34" ultrawide. I imagine CES might have one, but I also need to be financially responsible for the next 6 months or so until my current house sells while I'm paying double mortgages.

At least it shouldn't be an issue with your use case, with gaming being the main use. At this point spending the extra £100 will be worth it imo.

The best OLED gaming monitor currently on the market also seems to be the cheapest in the UK: Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM 26.5" 2560 x 1440 240 Hz Monitor (90LM08Q0-B01AB0) - PCPartPicker
