Hello! So my question is about GPU memory Bandwidth. Now, mostly I see questions around how bandwidth influences performance, but I want to understand how bandwidth influences gaming experience.

Currently I have an RTX 3080. With 10 GB of GDDR6x and a bus of 320 bit, it has a bandwidth of 760 GB/s.

Say I want to upgrade to a 4070 ti Super, which has 16 GB of GDDR6x but has a bandwidth of 672 GB/s.

Now the performance of my 3080 is fine for me, so I'm more interested in things like: Texture pop-in, world pop-in, and things like that. I know that a 4070 ti Super will be faster, but what impact does the bandwidth have on the actual gaming experience that cannot be measured by raw FPS?

Thanks! 🙂

Things like texture pop in is likely limited by loading speed. I'd guess this would be limited by disk IO or CPU performance.

There have been improvements in the 4xxx series that should allow for better performance with the similar memory bandwidth. Look at the 4060 for more details about this, but the 4060 was slightly faster than a 3060 with a lower memory bandwidth.

Also there is a lot more to gaming performance than memory bandwidth, there are many more things that affect the performance like the amount of cores enabled
