2 Players, one pc

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I play mostly War Thunder and the occasional Diablo / Cyberpunk / RimWorld / NFS Unbound. Wife plays mostly Audition.

My wife has recently started to play a game from her childhood called Audition. We only have one PC (listed below), and we kind of argue on who gets to play. We decided to buy a laptop yesterday, but the screen is .. meh. I recall Linus having the 2 players 1 pc video series back in the clean shaven days, and I was wondering what upgrades I would need to do to our current PC in order to make something like that, today. I reckon more ram and probably upgrade the CPU?

Just a buy a keyboard, mouse and a monitor for her laptop. Things arent as simple as LTT videos aimed towards 12 year olds make it out to be.

N players 1 PC is not feasible in any context other than "because you can" or maybe in extremely space constrained situations.. but even there SFF may be a better option. the hardware requirements are high, usability is notably worse than just having separate computers, anticheat will *always* kick you out because you're on a virtual machine, etc.

 

put that money towards some nice peripherals for said laptop.

Return the laptop and build an SFF rig instead. They did a "2 PCs one case"-thing as well, I would go for that instead of virtualization

X players on 1 pc is purely a tech demo. It is TERRIBLE to use daily and sucks extremely hard to keep goin, anti cheat blocks you, updates break it, you need higher end expensive hardware,...

 

Even if you wanted to in your case with your budget you'd be able to make a barely bootable shitshow of a clone of it.

 

Like 700 euro is enough to make a copy of your pc that is better without an issue. So just get rid of the laptop that neither of you is happy about by returnknh it

If you're looking to hook up two or more gamepads at once you might be interested in the xbox wireless dongle. I like to use it for emulated games or really any game that has local co-op

I'll return the laptop, I have decided on a little PC for her. I'd honestly leave the one I have to her and build a new one for me, but the gpu prices here are effin ridonkulous. So unless I decide to part with one kidney, half liver, a lung and probably a testicle ...

You don't have to. Browse the 2nd hand market. Here are in The Balkans we have EXCELLENT 2nd hand market offers. You can easily get something like an RX 6800XT for around $250-$300 depending on the model, with remaining warranty. It's not that terrible as everyone thinks. Yes Nvidia is premium taxed across Europe, but even new AMD GPUs like the 7800XT occasionally get proper discounts. EMAG recently had a sale between X-mas and New Year with open box items for brand new 7800XT GPUs with 2 year warranty for the equivalent of $450. USD, not Euros... That was insane deal.
