Should I switch my 9 5900X for a 5 7600X/7 7800X3D?

Go to solution Solved by Bagzie,

This seems like a horrendously overpriced side grade to me.

I've been thinking of switching out my specs and completely re-doing it but on the AM5 Platform
My specs are:

  • Motherboard - Asus ROG B550-F WIFI II

  • CPU - Amd Ryzen 9 5900X

  • GPU - Amd Radeon 6900XT

  • Ram - Corsair Vengeance LPX 32Gb DDR4 3600Mhz

  • PSU - Corsair RM750e

  • SSD - Western Digital Sn770 1Tb

I was thinking of changing just about the whole build to this:

  • Motherboard - Asus ROG B650 - A WIFI

  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X/7 7800X3D

  • Gpu - Asus Tuf RX 7800XT OC edition

  • Ram - Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400

  • PSU - Corsair RM750e

  • SSD - Western Digital Sn770 1Tb

The reason I'm changing the CPU is because I don't have much use for the extra cores because this is a gaming build, and it's never at 100% usage, and I found that the 7600X gives better gaming performance, has a decent IGPU, and loads of other technical differences. I'm changing the GPU because it's not an OEM model, as it's a tester card from an AMD factory, and it doesn't work like other GPU's most of the time. Eg. the maximum frequency is 500mhz (  I posted a pic below ) and I have to manually change the settings which sometimes causes crashes. It also heats up a lot because of that, meaning that when I set it to 2300mhz it stays there and heats up to 80 degrees when I'm playing games like battlefield 2042.

I also can't decide whether I want to pay the extra amount of money on the 7800X3D.
The games I play (1440p at 144Hz) are:
Battlefield 2042

Need For Speed Heat
R6 Siege

Dead Space

F1 22

This makes my head hurt.

Do not waste a dime on a side grade, update your drivers(do a clean install), run your GPU at stock and only adjust the fan curve. See what happens.

Bro you've got such a good system there already, why waste money on anything right now? You paid good money for your system as is, get your money's worth out of it. I'm still using a 3900X which is already a good bit slower than your Zen 3 counterpart, and it's still getting the job done fine. As long as your PC does what you want it to, why worry about the new things? Don't get caught up in the FOMO, IMO.

Main PC :

CPU = R9 3900X / Motherboard = Asus Crosshair 8 Hero / GPU = EVGA SC Ultra RTX 2060 / RAM = G.Skill 3600 16-19-19-39 ( 32GB / 4x8 ) / Cooling = Dark Rock Pro 4 / Storage = Western Digital Caviar Blue ( X4 ) Crucial 500GB NVME, 500GB 970 EVO/ PSU = Seasonic X-850 Modular / Case = Corsair Carbide 200R

Wireless = Asus PCE-AC56 / Keyboard & Mouse = Corsair K70 MX Blue, Logitech G203 / Headphones = Hyperx Cloud Alpha /
