Is this your first time booting the PC, or a new problem on an old box? Did you take the plastic off of the CPU block? Are the fans spinning? Is everything plugged into the right headers? Is there anything in contact with the board that could be causing a short? Is this an AIO or a custom loop? How old is it?

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

If you didn't build the PC yourself, return it to where you got it from. Clearly that's not right if you're not doing anything and your processor is that hot.

Some things to check (if you built the PC yourself):

  • Did you remove the plastic cover or sheet on your cooler before you applied it to the processor? The block will come with a plastic cover over the copper or nickel surface to prevent damage in the box, but this plastic must be removed before the cooler is applied (otherwise, the plastic acts as a thermal insulator).
  • Did you apply the correct amount of thermal compound? For most consumer-tier processors, you should apply about the size of an uncooked grain of rice's worth of thermal compound to the processor and do not spread it by hand (let the pressure of the cooler squish the compound out).
  • Did you tighten the cooler's screws down all of the way? The cooler block should have springs on it that will apply the correct amount of pressure. If they do, then tighten the screws until they stop.

"Not breaking it or making it worse is key."

"Bad choices make good stories."

Just fixed it had the pump header in the wrong spot and cut my thumb on a fan

What header was it plugged into?
