i recently bought 2x16GB 3600 Corsair vengeance Pro it was and upgrade from 4x8 3200 Corsair vengeance. I'm running i-9 9900k cpu and Z390 Aorus Elite MOBO.

The issue I am having is when running the 3600 sticks i would run into very frequent game crashes and freezing even blue screened my pc one time. I tried XMP off i tried manually putting the frequency ect but nothing seemed to fix the game crashes i was getting.

After putting my old sticks of ram in (4x8 3200) my pc went into a boot loop for several minutes before taking me to a reset bios screen, but my pc seems to be running ok again after reverting to old ram. As you may be able to tell i'm a bit of a pc noob lol PLS any help is greatly appreciated!

just rma the new sticks

4x8 is supposed to be abit harder to run on both the board and imc since its 4 sticks and dual rank unlike that 2x16 single rank kit, and dual rank performs better than single rank so you effectively sidegraded (your current 4x8 kit should perform equal if not better than that 3600 kit) and somehow the sticks that are supposed to be easier to run are now crashing which id just call faulty and id rma

Also dont think its worth running the new kit when you can just oc your current kit to 4000-4400 depending on your cpu imc capability at 1.45v vccsa/io and obliterate the new kit

Thanks for the help! So your are telling me i can clock my current ram to 4000-4400?? how would i figure out what volt to run it at? or you are saying with xmp on and putting the freq at 4400 with 1.45v would work? my cpu is pretty nice and mobo is rated to run high ram freq also not sure what "imc" means or some of the other abbreviations lol sorry very noob 😕

Yep though depends on the ram ics

Send a thaiphoon burner pic to identify ics

Also is this a proper 4x8 kit or is tthis two 2x8 kits mixed together? If theyre mixed just send 4 screenshots of thaiphoon burner for each of the individual sticks

imc = memory controller in the cpu

Vccsa/io = memory controller voltages

9900k has a pretty decent imc and ~4400 is quite normal at the volts i mentioned

As for the rams i doubt youll need over 1.6v for 4400 as long as you dont waste your volts and dump volt into cas latency and not the subtimings (where most of the performance comes from)

i downloaded thaiphoon burner and im not sure how to use it haha i will try 4400 at 1.45v. also they are the same kit of 4x8 RGB Corsair vengeance pro.

the truth is, if it cant even run at advertised xmp, that's very very unlikely.

I'd recommend to buy better ram and only 2 sticks instead of 4.

Like this for thaiphoon burner

I dont mean same kit model cause that does not matter

but are they a proper 4x8 kit or are they two 2x8 kits mixed tpgether?

And no you dont just blindly ram oc cause thats just more pain than neccesary

Spoiler

Just an example of a ram oc, actually my pb for windows boot ddr3 atleast for now till i get a better imc and be able to run the sticks past 3100 (which they are definitely capable of)

Because i looked up the characteristics online and followed an oc profile (with some adjustments as i am running a pretty high freq for ddr3) i can hit this kinda freq

Just because your kit is some generic xmp plastic heatspreader ram doesnt mean its guaranteed garbage though they kinda are on average, just hope you dont fall into that average and get some half decent ics not samsung cdie =p

the 4 sticks that i have been running for a long time now are not a "proper" kit of 4x8 i purchased them as 2x8 and bought 2 more and they work just fine.... the recent kit of 2x16 at slightly higher freq wont run enough for me to game.

no, the kit that works is not a "proper" 4x8 it was purchased as 2x8 3200 and then another 2x8 and they have been working for a long time and still work to this day... the kit that wont work is the 2x16 3600. My Mobo is rated to run high freq ram and even advertising 3200 as the lowest.

In that case just send 4 thaiphoon burner screenies to check the ram ics, though since they are corsair sticks you could just send a pic with all 4 sticks with version number visible cause you can tell the ic just by looking at the version number

Your 2x16 kit is defective just return it
