Hey everyone! Got a bit of a dilemma here and need some advice. So, the RX 7800XT is looking like a steal, being $140 cheaper than the 6950XT where I live. I'm torn between the two, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. From what I've gathered, both cards are pretty similar in performance, though some folks say the 6950XT might have a slight 10% advantage in rasterization.

Now, I'm planning to get into recording and eventually dipping my toes into streaming. Just so you know, the rest of my rig includes a Ryzen 9 5900X (got it at a crazy 52% off deal), 32 gigs of 4000 MHz DDR4 RAM (currently chugging along at 3200 MHz because of my Gigabyte GA-AX370M-DS3H motherboard), and a Samsung 980 Pro.

Power draws not a problem for me, so no need to worry about that. Any advice or recommendations on which/what I should get? Thanks a bunch!

(PS: I will also be playing VR games on my quest 2 with it via airlink or virtual desktop)
(PSPS: The 6950xt is $660 OEM and the 7800xt is a $520 XFX Speedster QICK319 RX 7800XT. Also in USD pricing.)

Whilst 6950XT is the faster card, at a $120 extra premium I don't think it's worth it. Just save the difference and get single digit fps (5-10%) less.

4K max settings gaming is the only place where I'd consider getting the 6950xt,

but in lower settings and resolutions, if you're getting 100fps vs 110fps for example, you're paying 150$ for 10fps,

maybe wait for deals if you can? (unless they're already discounted)

if you use high resolution display for VR, then getting the faster GPU would depend on if you really need all settings to be as high as possible (high detail gaming in VR is still ambitious even today though), and if you'll play more VR than regular screen games

What's your experience with yours if you don't mind me asking? Just wanting to get an idea of what people actually get out of theirs instead of some comparison youtube video

That's what I was thinking too. I will wait and see if anyone else replies to the thread. Hoping people reply who have experience with one or the other to see their views on the card.

Virtual Desktop has av1 support so it may be better for me to go for the 7800xt for said support. Don't know yet

perhaps look at reviews?

in this video perticularly the 7800XT sounds like a decent VR card

(in the video, the stuttering mentioned was an actual app issue and not GPU issue)

Only demanding game ive really played on it has been cyberpunk and MCC so far, cyberpunk i changed from 1080p to 1440p HDR recently (maxed graphical settings) and almost no lowering of frames that was noticeable, playing between 100 and 130fps depending on intensity of whatever is happening

Halo reach MCC i had to frame limit as i was getting between 600-700fps on max+boosted MCC graphcis, even hitting some 800fps when looking at a wall or low density area like a small featureless room. Its been great so far, I've OCd it to 2.61GHz Core clock and 2.59GHz Mem clock. Still only running around 50-60C in game
