You could drop down to a FX 8320 and OC it to a FX 8350. Also, I think you might want to get a CPU cooler since FX chips tend to run hot. Can anyone confirm? Also, maybe get a Radeon HD 7950 since it's about $20 and is potentially stronger than the R9 270X.

Agreed, get a 4670k even if it means getting a weaker GPU because that 4670k will see you through 2 or 3 GPU upgrades. And your first upgrade should be an ssd. In a year, or maybe even two, GPU's will have been playing 4k games for a little while.

What's the system being used for?

I'd suggest getting a different motherboard if you're sticking with the 8350. The G46 can have issues with fx 8 cores.

AMD and Intel both have their advantages and disadvantages. Whichever is most appropriate changes with the situation.

What are you using autocad for? What other applications?

Here, much better motherboard the MSI g46 should never be paired with an FX 8 core, the 4+1 powerphase design and cheap VRM's of the g46 is guaranteed failure, this UD3p motherboard has an 8+2 digital power phase and high quality heatsinked VRM's

hey Jesus, that motherboard has no chance in hell to survive the 125W FX 8 core CPU, you need at least a good quality 6+2 power phase motherboard, idealy an 8+2 power phase, something like the gigabyte 970A-UD3p is pprobably the cheapest board to support the 8 core FX.
