Samsung wants to expand biometric scanners even to lower-end phones

It looks like Samsung wants to bring more and more features to their devices. PocketNow reported, in a forum in Hong Kong, Samsung's senior vice president Rhee In-jong told analysts and investors Samsung's plans with biometric technology. He said Samsung wants to expand biometric technology to "as many devices as possible", and they are looking into other biometrc technologies like the iris scanner.

Rhee In-jong’s statement:

“We’re looking at various types of biometric [mechanisms] and one of things that everybody is looking at is iris detection.”

He says nothing about bringing it to lower end phones.

Samsung Electronics is working to use biometric sensors in its mobile security system which the company expects to be available even for low-end smartphone models, an executive said Monday.

I think it is stupid if you do it by itself. Relying on a password you can't change is never a good idea. With fingerprints you're literally leaving your password in the open every time you touch something. Iris scanning is better but it's still the issue of not being able to change it.
