New CPU having random temperature peaks

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble with my new CPU (well it hasn't caused anything nasty yet but I'm worried) : idling, it stays between 51°C and 57°C - kind of normal - but it randomly peaks to 70°C without me doing anything (neither gaming nor photoshop).

The airflow in my case isn't optimal (you can barely fit a cigarette rolling paper between my GPU and the case), but considering it's only peaks, and then the temperature decrases back to ~52°C, I don't think it has something to do with my issue...

Hey there! Welcome to the Forum! 🙂
This is completely normal behaviour from the Ryzen 7000 series, they do spike quite a bit in temperature.  I helped someone with a similar question and I am going to link that thread so you can read through it.
It will also explain how the Ryzen 7000/ AM5 CPU's work.

There are also 2 videos in this thread I advice you to watch.

TLDR: Ryzen 7000 WANTS to boost to 95c before anything else, they are designed to hit a thermal limit before anything else. Thats why they spike a bit, they have no power limits until 95c.

What could cause that?

Thanks a lot!
