.3ghz worth $100?

Go to solution Solved by TheNinjaNextDor,

Get the 4700mq.

So I'm looking at laptop options, and I think I found the one. I am customizing it on xoticpc and was wondering which cpu to go with.

The 4800mq is 2.7-3.7ghz I believe.

The 4700mq is 2.4-3.4ghz I believe, but is $100 cheaper.

This will be paired with a gtx 880m.

Do you think the $100 would be worth it for the .3ghz?

Probably not as the 2700k wasn't worth it over the 2600k, the performance increase will only be little.

Definitely not. $100 is not worth it for 0.3ghz.

The only reason I question it is because its not like its 3.0 ghz vs 3.3ghz, it's 2.4 vs 2.7, so the ratio of the .3ghz is a lot higher to the total clock speed. Does that change your opinion at all?

if that's +$100 for just an additional .3Ghz of CPU clock, then no.

Is the extra 300 Mhz worth $100 to you? -That's the important question..

How many people spend well over $100 on aftermarket cooling systems for the sole purpose of pushing their K-series CPU an extra couple hundred Mhz? If 300 Mhz was never worth it at all, everyone would be using non-K CPUs with stock cooling, but non-OC'd CPUs are a bit rare in enthusiast systems..

Ehhh, personally I might go with it just for lulzz, but only if I had an extra $100 lying around.. Just remember, upgrading it in the future is neither cheap nor easy in laptops, so the performance you buy right now is the performance you'll be stuck with forever..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems
