What GPU to upgrade PC Please?

Other details - Currently ASUS Prime X570-Pro Motherboard -AMD Ryzen 7 1700X CPU - 16GB (x2 8GB) Corsair DDR4 Ram - AMD RX580 8GB GPU

 

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my PC because I'm noticing certain titles, God of War, for example on High settings I'm getting an AVG FPS of 50 and it is noticeable.

I built my system in 2017-18 sort of time, so after catching up with all the new generations of products, it got confusing quickly.

 

My main question is - should I upgrade to AM5 now? then upgrade GPU - this will of course need new CPU and ram and GPU

Or should I stick with the same CPU/Ram and upgrade GPU only.

 

I notice the new GPUs have PCIe gen 4 now and I'm getting hung up on the limiting bandwidth if i stick that on a PCIe 3 gen slot (my current board) - would that make a huge difference for FPS performance?

 

I am also aware the CPU being slightly older and so the new high VRAM GPUs and new chips may out-perform the CPU and bottleneck? again not sure if this will be a real world issue for me.

 

I'm wanting to be able to play most new titles with at least High settings, (Elden Ring, Harry Potter, God of War 2, Formula 1 etc) and I may upgrade to a 1440p monitor with a higher refresh rate in the next year or two as well.

 

Any advice would be appreciated, as currently I'm looking at upgrading the whole system and jumping to AM5 - I may change my opinion with some advice though, thanks!

then upgrade the platform first , it would be pretty disappointing to buy a gpu for a 1700x expecting it to be an improvement only to come to that conclusion later.
