I upgraded from WIndows 7 to 8 using the upgrade method and didn't have any problems. I just had to reinstall a few applications and I was ready to go.

Do a fresh install. so long as you dont run a format during the install your files will be placed in a folder at the root directory of the C drive called Windows.old. From that you can nativate to your user folder and copy back over personal files. You CANNOT copy over installed programs. you will need to reinstall all your software again.

Once you have done what you need to with the windows.old, Run a disk cleanup and select the button (after the first scan) called clean up system files and from that it will rescan the C drive again and find the Windows.old and you will have the option to remove it. You cant just simply delete the windows.old folder from Windows explorer.

As for software on other drives that will not be used as the boot drive. You will still need to redownload/reinstall programs (yes including your BF4).

You might have to. None of the Steam ones will really need to be though since you can just make a backup of all of them, then uninstall them. Then when you get Steam installed you can just restore them. The speed you are able to keep from just doing a fresh install makes it worth doing it.

You could use it as a boot disk and boot straight into the installer but I remember I did my installation in Windows 7. I remember keeping having all my files intact after the update without the windows.old folder and I think I used this method: http://www.gigabyte.com/WebPage/104/step-upgrade.html

I think when you install origin new you can define where to save BF4 and then the program will recognise the other files. otherwise copy them to a different folder and recopy them while downloading (worked for me, easier to fool than steam)

Guys I have had a mare and now my hdd is not showing up in windows 8 plus there is a 50 gb reserve coming up on my ssd ?!!

I was wondering is there is anyway that I can do a brand new fresh install like when u first installed an OS onto my PC when I built it.

However for some reason my ssd is not letting me select it as a bootable drive in my bios ?

you can boot from the DVD reader and format the Drives wile in the Win Setup and install the OS fresh, how ever i'm not sure about your SSD problem !

Correct

If i get what you are meaning and you want to do a proper clean install, you will loose everything on the drive's as you will need to format.
