3700x > 5800x3d or wait?

Current build:

R7 3700x

32gb ram

MSI x370 pro carbon

3080 12gb

I can get a 5800x3d for £290, or hold out a while and get new mobo (MSI pro b650-S), Corsair vengeance 32gb ddr5 6600mhz ram, and the 7800x3d for £600.

Just looking for opinions on what would be optimal, if the 5800x3d is worth it for me or no and if Am5/ddr5 is reliable enough now?

I mainly play star citizen, RuneScape & whatever new games take my fancy.

Thankyou for any feedback!

I'd rather look at what you plan to be playing. 1080p competitive games will likely benefit from a new CPU far more than something graphically heavy that relies way more on the GPU, even less CPU dependant if you plan to play at 1440p or 4k.

Right now 5800X3D I'd say is staying withing acceptable performance for the average game need.

Desktop: Ryzen 7 5800X3D - Kraken X62 Rev 2 - STRIX X470-I - 3600MHz 32GB Kingston Fury - 250GB 970 Evo boot - 2x 500GB 860 Evo - 1TB P3 - 4TB HDD - RX6800 - RMx 750 W 80+ Gold - Manta - Silent Wings Pro 4's enjoyer

Ahhh I did put what games I'm playing (mainly star citizen), forgot my monitor! I use a 1440p ultra wide. Often have RuneScape on my 2nd monitor at the same time too! 🙂

1440p is stil gonna make most GPU's sweat it. I think it's safe enough to upgrade to a 5800X3D and the money you saved from going to a 7000 series CPU can go towards a 7900XT, 4080 or 7900XTX whenever you buy them in the future.

I think your motherboard's good enough for the heat that the CPU generates. Just check that it's supported with a BIOS update.
