Which CPU to go for?

Depends on the application. For video rendering, more faster cores is much better. However, for games, it's a bit more complicated as they're usually pretty cache heavy, and because the X3D has significantly more cache it, it's significantly faster in most games.

If you're just gaming, the 7800X3D is the best CPU you can currently buy.

I'm also curious if this Gigabyte B650 will be a good match for either of the cpu together with 32 gb corsair ram, cause I know ryzen used to be picky about what kind of ram it needed. Thank you for your help 🙂

The link to that board is wrong, though at the same time almost every B650 board is plenty for either CPU. As for the RAM, that would work, though there's probably better options like this kit for cheaper.

Hey so I'm gonna upgrade my setup this black friday since there are some alright deals here in Norway so what i was mostly wondering is whether the 7800X3D or the 7900X is the better option. They are both on sale and very similarly priced so that doesnt matter. From my little research people say the 7800X3D, but idk if thats just cause its better value, I thought more cores and higher speeds were better. I really only use the pc for gaming and internet browsing and like the occasional photoshop/lightroom. And i have a AMD 7900xtx and its mostly the reason I'm upgrading cause my current cpu (i5-8600k) is bottelnecking. Please also let me know if there is an Intel cpu that is also good right now for around the same price as i have not paid that much attention to the cpu market currently so im a bit out of the loop (if you couldnt tell) 🙂

Thank you for the explanation and answer, I'm gonna go for the 7800X3D and try and find some better ram.

That board is solid, I've used one before.

Good to hear.

Will an air cooler be enough to cool the 7800X3D? I've always used an AIO but grown more and more afraid of it failing. It also just seems like a lot less of a hassle to deal with.

Yeah, an AIO is unnecessary for the 7800X3D since that chip just doesn't draw any power. You might as well get a dual tower air cooler like the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 since they've gotten so cheap, but you can even get away with an AMD stock cooler if you've got one laying around.
