A headset for a competitive player.

Hello,

I play a lot of CS:GO, and a sound is really important. At this time i'am using Fatal1ty gaming headset, its old but does a job for me. What i want is some kind of expensive headset with good quality and 7.1 surround. I looked up at populiar brand Razer/Steelseries and i saw some interesting products. Firstly Razers tiamat 7.1 looks cool, and youtube says its good ( i dont believe in that ) what do you think is this headset worth buying ? Then i was looking at steelseries and i saw   H gaming headset for 250$ is that worth it ? I looked Linus video, and i do believe in linus ( sometimes ) :D. And the other thing would be a Razer Kraken forgoted edition, i like premium feel to my ears, cuz i play almoste all day long :D.... what do you thing about them, Linus sad that it has good bass and quallity, but low vocals.... I  NEED A REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD OPINION, THAT I CAN FEEL DIFFRENT FROM FATAL1TY HEADSET.

About soundcard, what if i buy asus xonar gaming sound card ? Is it worth it ?

Thank you.

I use the G930 (Or the G30 if you don't want wireless) headset from logitech when I'm play cs, it helps a lot, however there are lots of problems associated with these headphones.

Some I haven't tried but they look as good as the logitech ones are the Corsair Vengeance 2100(Wireless) or 1500(Wired).

Hope this helps :)

so uhm..  nice headphones, sound card with 7.1 trickery and a dedicated microphone. nahh

Thing is... that 7.1 trickery only confuses me. I can pick out any gun shot with all special effects left off.

so how about get good headphones, try them out on your onboard sound before you buy any kind of DAC/soundcard (might not need it) and a nice little desktop mic. or a Zalman clip on...idk why ppl suggest that but it works too.

open heaphones would help a lot with positioning without any soundcard trickery. Closed headphones for not waking up people in the next room. 250 bucks can get some really good headphones and a mic

Just searched for fatality's spec, it's a normal 3,5mm jack headset (as opposed to headsets that came with its own USB surround DAC), meaning the 7.1 surround should be in the form of an application in your PC. If that's the case, just get any good headphone (instead of headset, for reasons said in posts above), plug it in, and keep using the 7.1 application you're using.

For good wide soundstage that's very useful in 3D positioning, get open backed headphones. I'd say get the AD500x or AD700x. I'd recommend the AD700, the one in my avatar, but they're discontinued.

If you're a competitive player, don't let the convenience of a mic attached to your headset ruin you of the chance of getting an extra kill...

I'd get: HD800s, Q701, 700x in that order (also goes from most to least expensive).

You want to be competitive, you need to get every minute advantage you can get.

For competitive purposes, soundstage, imaging and clarity are probably the most important factors, so without spending big on the HD800 I would recommend something from the K701/K702/Q701/K712 family. They have a few niggles when it comes to music (a slightly spiky treble) but next to the £1,000 HD800 they are the best you will get for sound stage.

Another possible consideration, if you want music as well as gaming, is to consider a second hand Stax set up from the Lambda family. They don't have as large a soundstage as the dynamics mentioned, but they have pin-point imaging within a smaller soundstage and are up there with the best for speed and clarity. If you do a lot of lurking on ebay you can find SR303 rigs with one of the basic amps for under £300.

If you really are into getting a headset, then Sennheiser pc360, Audio-Technica ath-adg1 or Beyerdynamic mx300 are some good options, if you want open headset. But if you dont wanna hear everything thats going on arround you, the Sennheiser PC350SE and Audio Technica ath-ag1 are also pretty good options.

But if you want the abselout best sounding audio and good positioning, then some headphones with antlion will be a good option. I would proberly recommend the 558 or Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X, because of the flat bass and good sound positioning in games.

Depends on the context it's being judged on. Meaning, if it's judged in the headset world, I'd say it's at least above average, or good. If it's being judged in the headset + headphone world, probably would be 'meh....passable....'

None of them are good for competitive play.

About soundcard, what if i buy asus xonar gaming sound card ? Is it worth it ?

As a Xonar owner myself, and an earlier Xonar fanatic I can safely say... Nope... I used to think that the Xonar was the most amazing thing ever, and when I baught it I realized: There's not really that much of a difference. I have not listened to audio from my onboard soundcard, but I can tell you that I remember it being allmost no difference what so ever. Unless you use really high impedence headphones, because the included amp is amazing. As well as you might notice a difference if you use very high-end headphones, as then you get to exploit it's full potential. But for all headphones bellow 50 ohm and 400€ it's not worth it.

Holy crap, we've already suggested everything but headsets and then it seems like you've already made a decision regardless of what anybody else says. Are you actually competitive or are you just a wannabe?
