Cpu overheating causing no start-up

BTE96

I just completed my first pc build, and the first time i tried turning it on,i got nothing on the screen but the pc kept working for around a minute or two. After that it just shut itself down.I tried to power it on since that might be normal for a completely new pc.After turning it on it stayed on for around 30 sec and shut off.Monitor didnt turn on or anything.

So then,i went and took off my front pannel, and touched the cpu and it was burning hot.I do not have a cpu cooler on it yet,but i really dont think a cpu cooler is needed to go into bios and stuff.

Parts:

-ryzen 7 5800x

-mb:asus b550m-a prime

-rx 6750xt

-corsair vengance 16gb 3200mhz

-650w corsair cv650

-a 1tb adata m.2

If you have any ideas as to why its overheating and shutting off, please help.I understand a cpu cooler is really good, and a must for gaming, and i will get one but still. It should turn on atleast.

Thanks!

Could the cause be the motherboard? The cpu? Something else?

cpu cooler is definetly needed even in bios, without it you could be running it at 100c in about 43 seconds (tested with my older 3700x)

The reason why it needs cooler and gets so hot is because,

5800x has 4,150 million transistors all clocking at 3,8Ghz minimum

which means that those 4 million transistors pass through electricity 3,8 billion times per second, and that's pretty hot

A cooler IS needed to stay into BIOS for more than 30 seconds

Be sure to get a cooler that can handle the load as the 5800x is quite power hungry (for AMD) at 105W. A Ryzen stock cooler won't be enough.

You young whippersnappers starting out with PCs now have it good as most things are now, pardon the expression, idiot proof. I remember frying an i5 2500k during troubleshooting when I installed the cooler but forgot to plug the fan in. I then ran memtest and the screen turn to green garbage. The cooler was too hot to handle until like 15 minutes later and the CPU was still very hot when I removed the cooler. The CPU never worked again. Your Ryzen more than likely or even certainly saved itself but I wouldn't push the temps like that as it can cause degradation.
