1st time builder -- any problems with this list?

Scorpi6679

Budget (including currency): $1500-2000

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Mostly for gaming but also some productivity stuff (nothing too intensive for productivity). Case is bought and locked in but everything else is flexible. Will be deciding on monitor at a later date -- happy for any suggestions on what level of monitor would work best for this build. I'm fine with 1080 or 1440.

Appreciate any thoughts, thanks!

Get a better cooler. Could always go grey market for windows key to save 100$ in order to get the better cooler. Otherwise build looks fine to me.

if you mainly play fps games I'd go 1080 - if you prefer story games I'd go 1440p

Also, I was just watching a video the other day from jayztwocents talking about his 7800x3d and how when he was multitasking while gaming (like streaming or other cpu intensive workloads) it messed with the cpu's ability to fully utilize the 3d cache. Might check that video out and see if it's applicable in your case

Shipping sucks

7900x + 7800xt + 32gb 5600c32

7900x over 7800x3d cause 7800x3d overpriced and youll problably be more futureproofed with extra cores especially if you do productivity stuff

Cut costs on the board, rams, ssd, and gpu

The b650m hdv is really good for the price and the vrms will handle an overclocked 7950x, if you feel like youll need more i/o then the b650 livemixer is at 150$, more i/o then that look at the b650e taichi lite usually around 250-270$ and has extra stuff like a postcode and eclk oc support for overclocking x3d cpus, x670e is pointless imo when compared to b650e of the same price which have more features

Cheaper ssd cause if you are doing casual productivity work it wont matter, a better ssd would be the a440 pro at 95$ if you happen to do some high res video editing or something thats very r/w intensive

Upgraded the psu to a 1200w with a 10 year warranty, rme is an abysmal choice as it only has a 7 year warranty, 1000w udgm was closing in on 1200w pricing so went with a 12m 1200w. A cheaper psu would be the apevia prestige 1000w at 80$ (apevia has got better psus now, just the older ones you wanna avoid)

Windows key just buy off a cheapkeys site for 20$

Id also reccomend a used 3090 over the 7800xt which can usually be found for around 500-600$ on classifieds sites like fb marketplace

I've gone with an orange theme to make use of the motherboard on sale. Was all solid but some pricy parts otherwise like Samsung SSD and motherboard. 7800X3D is pretty much best for games an occasional workload will see 8 cores plenty:

The jayztwocents video was talking about the 7950x3d and the problem had to do with the software switching between the 3d v cache cores and the normal ones. The 7800x3d only has 3d v cache cores so it's super solid and has great performance.
