3ds max 2020 issue

Hi we recently have had an issue with 3ds max 2020 after upgrading to V-Ray 6.1, typically we work in 2 instances of the program so while one is loading a file we can work in the other. However after the V-Ray upgrade the issue is that while the file is loading it freezes and locks up everything in windows until its finished loading. 

What I've found is that if I manually change the process affinity to force the 2 instances of 3ds max to use separate cores the issue isn't present.

I have already contact V-ray and 3dsmax support but they are horribly slow so I would like to get some suggestions from the community.
