So i'm writing some songs with my band and i'm putting together a demo one of our songs. My single core AMD Sempron 140 SUCKS and is practically dying when using mixcraft. I was wondering how well a hyperthreaded dual core like the i3 2120 i have in my "upgrades" list would do under these circumstances. This is buy NO means a professional case of music editing. I don't have decent speakers. I'm not using headphones. I'm not even using a recording booth. Basically what i want to know is if i can run mixcraft 6 just fine with the i3?

to give you a comparison point, I have a PC with a G3220 4gigs of ram, and a Gt640 from Asus (ggdr5, 128bit bus, 1gig vram) it can play BF3 on medium settings at 45+FPS, multiplayer of course, all of this on a Antec ISK 300-150 mini-Itx, fits in my back pack and i take it to a friend's house to play BF3 and World of tanks.

There are a lot of cheap 1155 boards available. I3 2120 is a good choise for mp3 editing and stuff like that. And gaming of course!

have you though on going with a more modern i3?

I already own the MoBo and can't update the bios without the 2nd gen chip, so i figure i'll rock Sandy Bridge until i can get a completely new PC and i'll just replace the ENTIRE thing after the fact

And that translates to music editing how? That being said, it's nice to know my PC will be able to play BF3 nicely :)

1. Probably, anyways it'll be much better than your Sempron.

2. You might run into trouble finding H61 boards.

3. You have $100 left, please spend more on the PSU. Please do not buy that 450W Raidmax unit.

I figured :)

Already own the H61M-A(C model is all they have on PCPP)

I'm trying to keep the price near $250 because that's all i'm going to have and i'll need an advance on my allowance to pay for the rest. It'll be replaced VERY soon after the fact.

That CPU is fine. Though I haven't personally used mixcraft, I used to do some very track- and effect-intensive work on various software on a Core2Duo E8400 overclocked, which still is worse than that i3. So unless your software is a bloated mess somehow, it will be more than ample. The only thing that you will notice very strongly when going from a lower end CPU to a higher end one is the rendering time. I have waited through some brutal renders before, not so much now that I'm on a 4.8Ghz quad core.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

No seriously, just get like a CX430 for $45 and be done with it.

The extra $15 won't hurt your wallet, even if you'll be replacing it soon, but it will go a long way towards protecting your system.

a i3 3220 is pretty decent imo. if you can find a gigabyte h77n-wifi (it's what I'm using so kinda biased on that mobo)

but a haswell one would be good too. they work I mean if it worked with your sempron then it should work with i3 xD

Live your life like a dream.
