Are you actually kidding me...

I can't believe this timing... I have been trying to enforce hardware encryption on my new laptop for the past week!

After a dozen or so of complete Windows re-install I gave up and went for software encryption as it was specifically said in various benchmarks and reviews that "the performance hit was negligeable"...

I literally finished fully setting it up an hour ago...

And I did notice the performance looking effy but didn't realize how bad it was until just now when I tried to decrypt the drives and how much smoother the experience is...

I tried basically everything to the point where I think it must be a firmware issue on my laptop unable to make use of hardware encryption for some reason...
Can anybody help me troubleshoot/fix this issue? I'm honestly so distraught that I could make a whole thread about it...

EDIT: I just made one...

Funny I was trying to troubleshoot something last night and I saw bitlocker on in Services.  I added it to my list of thingsa to look up information about and today I see this video.

Is there a way to see if my Windows install is affected by this? My Rog ally came bitlocker encrypted by default. I turned that off but don't know if my SSD speeds would be faster doing a reinstall involving addressing this news.

as the first step you need to figure out if your computer is using software or hardware encryption:

Here in my case, it uses software encryption. As the next step I need to figure out if my SSD is "modern" and supports hardware encryption.

the link above has further links to the following:

    https://media.kingston.com/kingston/articles/enabling-and-disabling-edrive-to-utilize-hardware-encryption-us.pdf

    https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/computers-it/samsung-ssd-970-evo-plus-drive-encryption-won-t-change-from/td-p/1352406

It does not look to me like an easy-to-verify and turn on the hardware encryption, especially when it requires W11 reinstall.

I do not think this is something that can be fixed with a patch from MS. I mean switching from software to hardware encryption without wiping the whole drive would be a security problem by itself from what I see it.
