Wanting to upgrade the wife from her laptop to a desktop pc for Christmas. Not trying to go over $1500 for the budget would really prefer to be below as I would like to just take her to Microcenter and let her shop and pick out everything herself but with my guidance.

Not sure whether to go with the 7600X or go with a 5800X as they would both fit within the budget and I think the 5800x would save me some money to allow her to get more accessories and really make it what she wants.

Games will only be played at 1080p but I don’t want to have to upgrade for a while which is why I’m choosing more 1440p oriented parts.

thanks in advance for any help. 🙂

For competitive 1080p gaming you need the better gaming CPU, 7800X3D

But no need for the most expensive cooler on this 100W chip

Also no need for RAM > 6000MHz as they likely won't work  above this

Swapped the SSD for a WD one I know is good, but the Sabrent was ok too

Keep the 7600X, or drop to the 7600 but still  stay AM5.  Only go AM4 if you're dropping in a 5800x3d on a current AM4 system.

Lost that cooler.  You don't need a top end air cooler for a 7600X when the Peerless Assassin is damn near as good for less than half.

There's your savings.

For $520, look at current deals on the 6900XT or 6950XT, they'll outperform the 7800XT.

Edit: I missed the Microcenter note.  So the $399 bundle for the 7700X is where I would go.

When it comes to DDR5 what’s the ideal CAS Latency at 6000? Everything I was seeing was at 36 which the higher frequency kit had a lower latency which is why I chose it.

This will be pretty. I'd double check the CPU tower height but should be good to go. A friend of mine has borderline this exact same setup but not white and runs all games pretty much on max 1080p, Hogwards, Cyberpunk, BG3. Only plays competitive shooters, CS2, CoD, Warzone, Apex Legends. He's happy and performance should be more than good, great in fact. Case will be a conversations starter:

Unfortunately that’s over the budget and also there is no “competitive gaming” she just likes playing esports titles and shooters. But will take note of the cooler change. I forgot thermalright was a thing. The SSD is a good note too. I’m not really stuck on the SSD might even change it a 1TB as she has a 1TB gen 3 in her laptop at the moment I can just swap over.

36 is fine, and runs without issue.  30 is better but if 36 comes in the Bundle then it's vastly worth it.

With a $400 700x bundle, the rest comes out like this with a 7900XT for serious 1080p/1440p gaming... Another example of Microcenter being the best store on the planet.

Or as you say, save on moving the SSD over.   Leverage the bundle though, at your price point you have plenty of options.

Biggest concern with Intel is Longevity. They like to change their socket to much and I’d like to be able to upgrade her CPU to a Ryzen 7 like 2 gens later hoping they do the same as AM4 making the platform upgradable for so long.

36 is fine, and runs without issue.  30 is better but if 36 comes in the Bundle then it's vastly worth it.

With a $400 700x bundle, the rest comes out like this with a 7900XT for serious 1440p gaming...

Sweet will make note of the latency thing. I’m really hoping I can get some cool bundle deals when we go to micro center.

Best one at your price point is the 7700X for $399...

Not far behind, and arguably good for you as well...  the 5600x3d bundle.  Great deal for $100 less but locks you on AM4 but the 5600x3d is a damn solid CPU for it's price...

When it comes to DDR5 what’s the ideal CAS Latency at 6000? Everything I was seeing was at 36 which the higher frequency kit had a lower latency which is why I chose it.

from what iv seen its fine to go to 48 cas lawtancey

Remember it’s for my wife. Who is a woman, everything has to be pretty rainbows.

On a more personal thing for me though, I don’t trust gigabyte mainly because of their customer service. I don’t have a lot of  time to spend on troubleshooting and RMA so the easier the customer service experience the better. Would prefer gold on the PSU as just a personal preference and I have the same unit so for troubleshooting and testing would make it a lot easier.

Will take notes for the other items though.

I was being budget conscious but I'm in the same boat. I also feel like AMD will keep AM5 far longer relevant than Intel will their platform. Downside is that AMD knows this so their parts are more expensive out of the box, I just don't know if we're paying extra for the motherboard R&D to keep them relevant or what. Either way, it'll cost a bit more. Picked a bit of a higher end board to give us the best chances of it supporting future chips optimally.

I've also added 3 fans so that the case is even more shiny and colourful. A normal D30 fan as exhaust and then 2 reversed D30 fans that would go on the bottom, blowing air up yet keeping the correct side up for it to look neat with all the RGB goodness:

The 120mm fan goes inside the back of that case for a rear exhaust fan.

I would recommend upgrading the psu to a larger wattage for future upgrades as well as switching the cooler for an aio. Also if you want ray tracing, you should change to an NVidia card.

No. The Kingston Nv2 drive is not worth it. It doesn't have DRAM and its performance is not good. I would only recommend it as a secondary drive, not a primary one.

Pls Mark a solution as a solution, would be really helpful.

BTW pls correct me, iam really stoobid at times.

I think it's a pretty good build for 1500$ the only thing is that u don't need such a good ssd either such a good cooler, also i would go with 6000Mhz CL30 ram wich is better for am5

I'm sorry if i made any spelling mistakes, i'm not an English speaker.
