Actually Considering an RTX 4060, any thoughts?

Brady AKA MrHoot2000

I have been looking at the 4060 lately, and it seems to be a decent deal at the lower prices I have been seeing from time to time. Nvidia seems to make sense that its AI features are worth the extra cost (DLSS Frame Gen, eye tracking, that video upres thingy, etc.), and the performance per watt is almost unchallenged. For the sub-$1000 build I have been eyeing, this seems to be a good pick if I don't buy used. Any thoughts?

I really hate chemistry.

AI features

Well, it's kinda a mixed bag

Sure DLSS 3.5 is currently the best in the market, but you will need to take note on specific feature such as Frame gen, it will have issue such as ghosting or artefact if the original frame is less than 30FPS. The other AI limitation would also be Ray tracing, as it is really not powerful enough to have enjoyable Ray tracing without sacrificing FPS

So if you're planning on maximizing RTX 4060 on AAA games, I suggest to only use DLSS features to enjoy good framerate

The other great RTX features outside of gaming, which in my personal opinion is super cool, is NVIDIA broadcast

This app has background noise suppression is really smart and effective, and the "focused eye" which is cool and creepy at the same time.

I wouldn't.

Unless every single game you play includes the outliers that allows the RTX 4060/4060ti to outclass the RX 6700XT or RX 6750 XT or RX 6800/XT or RX 7700 XT or RX 7800 XT or even the Intel Arc A770 16GB, then I'd steer clear of it.

I would even go as far as saying that there's only one useful RTX 4060 on the market.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile 8G Graphics Card, 3x WINDFORCE Fans, 8GB 128-bit GDDR6, GV-N4060OC-8GL Video Card - Newegg.com

Even for sub 200mm length cards there's better options, but I'd steer anyone who's giving themselves that design constraint towards better cases with slightly longer GPU support.

Outside of extreme SFF, the card just doesn't have good value. The RTX 4070 being $550 is even a better proposition than the RTX 4060ti, let alone the RTX 4060.

I wouldn't, not an NVIDIA hater but I'd not get anything less than a 4070 for only gaming. If I can't afford a 4070 then my only alterative is AMD.

I just got a RTX 4060 recently for like 320 bucks.

At the moment i'm trying to figure out how to install the damn thing.

But so far i prefer it because it gives

- DLSS

- frame generation exclusive only to 4000 series

- native performance is better than the RTX 3060 - 12 GB

So overall if you can find one at about that price i'd say go for it.

You mean PCI-X slot tab/clip? You push it down to remove old card (in case of super cheap mobo might be needing to move it to the side) and wiggle it out. Then insert new gpu lol

P.s. you prefer the product you didnt even try yet wtf?

Both buttons are connected to the same lever that moves a peice of plastic away from the GPU's pcie express connectors locking tab.

Performance per watt is nice, but I prefer performance per dollar.  I get paid in dollars, not watts 🙂  Is your electricity expensive?  You're 17, you don't even pay electric bills 😛

^^^

well ofc there are considerate kids that dont wanna drive the power bills way up but you can just undervolt a better gpu to get better perfrmance at a similar wattage

4060 is trash just buy a used 3070/6700xt and undervolt if you are really worried about power efficiency, heck if 4060s are going for absurd prices (>350$) might even get yourself a used 6800(xt) or 3080 which will annihilate a dinky 4060

Just send a pic if you are still confused

Assembling a working pc is doable in under 5 minutes without a case even if youve got a gpu and i do that pretty often cause i test some parts, with a case however things get painful when you start trying to cable manage and yea modular psus are worth it
