Weird dual monitor problems with a 3090TI

cleric_warlock

After a recent successful relidding of my cpu, i thought it would be a good idea to hook my second monitor up to the iGPU as a way of checking to make sure I didn't damage its functionality in any way. Once I was satisfied that things were fine, I switched back to running both monitors off of my 3090TI. For clarity, my iGPU can only be used through a single HDMI port on my mobo so it's always very clear which configuration I' m in when my second monitor is using the iGPU.

After doing this, a weird problem I had before i did the relidding when both of my monitors were also connected to the dGPU resurfaced - sometimes my secondary monitor (samsung odyssey g7) will flicker to a black screen almost as if it's falling asleep and instantly being woken back up. My primary monitor (alienware aw3423dw) which usually has all of my most intense tasks on it, never has this issue. The flickering on my second monitor always seems to occur when there is a particularly demanding graphical load on my primary display and even then only once or twice.

With my secondary monitor running through the iGPU, for some reason this flickering never happens. It should be noted that when both monitors are connected to my dGPU i have done a DDU uninstall of all the IGPU drivers and run only with a clean install of the latest versions of nvidia's game drivers. When running with the iGPU, I have a clean install of intel's integrated graphics drivers in addition to the latest nvidia game drivers clean installed. My cpu is an i9-12900KS for reference. Why could this flickering be happening only when both monitors are on my dGPU like this?

I've run into this issue when using (cheap) HDMI to VGA adapters thinking the card was broken. I know it's kind of a shot in the dark but is the monitor plugged into an adapter of any sorts?

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 | MSI B450 Tomahawk | Corsair LPX 16GB 3000MHz CL16 | XFX RX 6700 XT QICK 319 | Corsair TX 550M 80+ Gold PSU

nope, both monitors are only ever connected directly to the dgpu or the mobo via HDMI or DP.
