motherboard refresh rate

Hello, I'm getting a motherboard and the ports say it supports 8k,4k at 60hz is the motherboard locked at 60hz or can i go beyond that? Some places say that motherboard dosent effect performance much it more depends on the gpu is that true?

That's describing the on-board iGPU ports, without knowing the exact board you're talking about it's impossible to say for certain.

If you are going to be plugging the monitor into the GPU like you probably should be, yes the motherboard is irrelevant.
