Me and my dad are looking for a very cheap, small PC to run 1 minecraft server on (24/7, capable of atleast 15 people) and 1 webserver to monitor his solarpanels.

We don't have a budget, but a micro-atx/mini-itx would be fine, and as cheap as possible while still handling those 2 tasks without problems

Well, you said you also looking for cheap as possible. :) Not much to choose from. Go onto local etailer and do a search for ITX boards, get cheapest "brand name" one. A haswell core i3 (low power consumption), 8GB of ram and a cheap 1TB SATA3 drive. The look for a cheap case - I think the Corsair 250d is pretty low... Bitfenix, etc...  voila...

I'll play a bit on pcpartpicker, thanks for the additional info, I'll go with a ssd with low capacity since we don't need any storage and we have tons of external hard drive storage

Still uses a lot of RAM and may be heavy on the CPU if errors occur. Will be LAN, yes

You're right I was running a server on an old dell workstation with a quadro 3400 or so and 4 gigs of ram a pentium 4 and it was beyond laggy because of ram speeds and the cpu. (It was a precision 370)

The computer I have currently doing this:

CPU: AMD Phenom x2 555 (unlocked to quad-core) $99

MoBo: Cheapest Asus AM3 with 4 RAM slots (emphasis on 4 slots) (Was less than $99).

RAM: 16GB 133MHz DDR3 Kingston ValuRam (at the time I spent only $70 for all of the ram).

In total, for the base system I paid less than $350. I had a copy of windows and a case, it's been running 24/7 for about 2 years.

I had this running a Minecraft server, network storage/backup server, a couple of databases (for the minecraft server), a webserver.

It ran the minecraft server fine, I had a bunch of mods running etc, so the 16GB was almost necessary - so try to find a board that has 4 slots for expandability.
