Hey Guys,

 

I'm having an issue with my video card which is a GTX 660 Gaming, the problem I'm having which is really pissing me off is a horrible sound coming from it when the fans are above 75%, I'm almost certain that it is from the cooler/shroud because when the PC is on its side there is no sound but when it is upright there sound appears, the sound also diminishes when I prop up the video card so I can't think what else it could be.

 

Through EVGA's Pricision X I have set the automatic fan profile so the card never goes above 70% fan speed but I really don't like that, does anyone have an idea on how I could solve this problem?

a loose screw maybe that the shroud is vibrating

I like automatic mode but I don't like having it set at 70%

 

You could try getting a backplate for the GPU to prevent any hanging when the PC is upright. I'm sure EVGA has one for the 660.

 

Would that fit the MSI card?

It depends, if they each have their own custom PCB than no, if they both use reference than yes. I'll look around a bit and see if I can find something.

 

EDIT: From looking around on Amazon I was unable to find GTX 660 backplates :( You could try making your own if you are handy and know how to cut and mold metal.

When I hold the second fan (stupid I know) the noise goes away so I think it may be the fan, are they easy to replace or will I have to stick with it?

If you can find the fan on eBay, it shouldn't bee that hard. If you can't, then you might have to suck it up.
