I've decided to upgrade from my old laptop with and iGPU to a new PC and I've worked on it for a while. I'm going to be using it mainly for rendering and 3D modeling in Blender and editing the video some in resolve, but I will also use it some for gaming. I would definitely prioritize production performance over gaming performance. 'm about to buy it, but before I do I wanted to see if there were any suggestions to get more out of my money.

My budget is $1750 USD but if there is some crazy performance uplift it could be $1800. Here's my part list:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QcGLPF

CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KF 3 GHz 24-Core Processor  ($544.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Deepcool LS520 SE 85.85 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME Z690-P WIFI D4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  ($149.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory  ($94.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Black SN850X 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive  ($119.00 @ Amazon)
Video Card: PNY XLR8 Gaming VERTO EPIC-X RGB GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Video Card ($500.00) (There seem to be a lot of 4080's going around for about $500 on eBay, so this is just a placeholder)
Case: NZXT H5 Flow RGB ATX Mid Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($134.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1734.63
It says the estimated wattage is 700 watts.

That board and cooler is not going to handle that cpu. You will suffer thermal throttling.

What would you recommend then? I've heard the 13700k takes a lot less power for about the same performance. Should I just go with that?

I'm not too educated on the different motherboard chipsets. This one looked like it had everything I needed and was a decent price. Is there something I should know about?

it's gen 12.. z790 is gen13 .. like the cpu you selected.

but it's the same socket, so the cpu fits..  ddr4 is older gen.. but still used in gen12 and 13,  to make it possible to reuse if you upgrade from gen 8-9 and generaly cheaper to buy anyway.

This gives you 48GB of DDR5 RAM which is a plus in regards to productivity programs. The 120mm fan goes inside the back of that case for an exhaust fan.

This is a really great list, thank you. I think this'll be what I go with. Although I don't need the integrated graphics so I'd rather go with the F variant.

Edited that build just now. That brings your total cost to right around $1000 minus the gpu.

13700k + 64gb 3600c18

For a tad under 900 this is what ive come up with, just a bunch of cost cutting where you can save lots of money (board, case, psu, etc.)

btw CL doesnt do shit for ram performance so dont waste your money buying cl16, if you are concerned about ram performance go out and buy 4 sticks of hma82gu6djr8n and lazy oc to ~4000 ddr4 trfc <500, gear 2 isnt benificial till you start running 5200+

Nice part list, I hope they're not scams but if they are I can definitely settle for a 3090. I usually hear people saying that getting more than 32gb ram is a waste, but everyone keeps recommending more. Is it because of the productivity applications?

Ok so first of all amd offers NO ACCELERATION IN ANY MODERN 3D WORKLOAD! As  in its useless does nothing. For rendering even a rtx 2060 blows a 13900k out of the water with over 3x the speed.

A 13900k NEEDS basically the best off the shelf cooler to not run at a constant 100c. A arctic liquid freezer 360 is the MINIMUM needed in a very well ventilated case. Unless the 7900xtx was a error and you really meant a 4080?

Btw 500$ for a 4080? Where? Thats less than half new price so basically WEEWOOWEEWOO SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 7900XTX was an error on the part list. My bad. I also switched to the 13700 so I wouldn't need as much cooling. And I have found multiple listings of 4080s on eBay of $600 and below. I'm suspicious too, but eBay has a return policy and everything so I think it's worth a shot.

Edit: Just found a water cooled 4090 going for $430, https://www.ebay.com/itm/335024517211?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20230823115209%26meid%3Daf737e4073444b88a52871f9ee0173a5%26pid%3D101800%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D335024517211%26itm%3D335024517211%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2SignedOut%26brand%3DMSI&_trksid=p4375194.c101800.m5481&_trkparms=parentrq%3Ab154425e18a0ad9859dec11cffffff4e|pageci%3Afefb5a79-5780-11ee-a751-6a64918a8a15|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage I don't know what to think anymore. 60 day returns and I'm not paying for shipping either way.

Its a scam

Stock image

Random account

No sales

Standard scam. Basically they sell something, use a way to quickly take the money away by stalling you, you eventually ask for a refund, they have taken tge money away and ebay refunds you.

However this is then money from ebay and not the seller as they used a burner.

March is exactly 6 months ago and thats when this account was created alongside probably a burner paypal or similar. 6 months is the usual waiting time for these scams.

Either way you arent getting that gpu ever. So id say a 12gb 3060 or even the horrible value 16gb 4060 will do new.

Else used a 3090 is not uncommon for 600$. Just DO NOT get a blower model

Sorry as I said I'm kind of new, what are contact frames and ILMs? Thanks.

You don't need a contact frame with these 7XX boards due to the fact the manufactures such as MSI strengthened the back of the board.

That was 6XX series boards with 12 gen. The 7XX boards such as that MSI board I posted have beefed up backplates.

Pretty much everyone on the likes of TPU and Tom's Hardware. The video you posted is over a year old and pertains to 12 gen boards and cpu's.

Can you post a link ? Manufacturers would gloat about that, Reviewers too. I see nothing. And even so, I doubt beefed up backplates would solve the problem.

Go to either of those boards and look at the build threads. A lot of those posters have their own shops and build one to two PC's a week. Or you can google some recent board reviews.  It's called 'mitigating a problem'. The 12 gen boards flexed, the 13 gen boards do not due to strengthened backplates.

1 year is nothing on such a niche problem.

Post a decent link and I might believe you. Or don't

Who are you that I should care whether you believe me or not. An example of mitigating a problem is AMD 7600 gpu's being recalled and the defect was rectified in less than a month.
