Git-like software for syncing 2 big folders between PCs?

Go to solution Solved by Anglican,

I don't know about Git-like specifically, but SyncThing sounds like it checks the vast majority of your boxes.

Hello there,

I hope this is the correct forum section for this.

I have 2 big folders that I'd really like to keep in sync between all my computers.

I've used Git/GitHub in my projects to sync code and project related files across many devices, and it worked wonderfully.

I would love if there was a software which tracks the changes between the selected folders and lets you update which changes are made so that the other PCs that are behind can easily sync to it.

It would be cool if it did it by connecting the two PCs and privately sending the required data over the internet, but I'm not sure if anyone made such a sophisticated tool yet.

It's probable that there's a cloud solution to such a problem, and I know such service probably cannot be free because of bandwidth costs and cloud storage, etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I did all my backups/syncing manually, so anything would be an improvement.

Thank you!

SyncToy from Microsoft used to fit this bill. It's been pulled by Microsoft but is still available at third-party sites.

Or search for "SyncToy Replacement"

CryptSync   Rclone combined with OneDrive, Gdrive, etc.

edit: Mixed up what CryptSync does. Rclone is the right answer.

The Declaration of Independence, once the charter of democracy, begins by saying that certain things are self-evident. If we were to trace the history of the American mind from Thomas Jefferson to William James, we should find that fewer and fewer things were self-evident, until at last hardly anything is self-evident. I use a really old utility called DeltaCopy but it's slow as it uses RSync as I'm cloning daily from my RAID10 on my Win10Pro Daily Driver to my TrueNAS then Snapshotting Weekly from my local TrueNAS to a remote Synology.
