Me and a buddy are starting a server based company but will be more than that down the road. Anyway, we have our server rack and are working on planning for the Minecraft server and this server will be massive. We plan to try and have 50k+ people always playing (This will be WAY down the road). But I need to know what kind of CPU's I should run for the servers, Should I run multiple servers and connect them via Bungee or something else?, Should I run multiple CPU motherboard with multiple servers?, I need way more help because I've been doing a lot of research and reading and constantly seeing different opinions etc. HELP! lol.

I have not before, BUT I am currently running the server off of my computer and people play on it as of this time. I'm ok with how much I'll have to spend but I want to get something not over powered but something that will run that many people.

Don't plan for that far out but your going to anyways so I would recommend watching the ltt minecraft server videos, with over 50k people you will have to do multiple minecraft servers there is no system I know of that can support that many people at one time on one server.

So like multiple like 1U - 4U chassis with dual CPU's or single CPU's ?

Whatever you can get but it would probably be consumer something like overclocked 13600k chips with 192+gb of ram if you want to run as few servers as possible. All you want is fast storage lots of ram and the fastest single threaded performance you can get.

Fair enough, I completely understand not trying to give out your discord, but it would greatly help me build the company I'm trying to build.

50k users is pretty unrealistic. I need to ask, have you ever operated a hosting server business before? This sounds like a teenager's pipedream.

Yes, we've hosted servers before and they went well when I streamed, but became to much money to host of hosting websites and we started to save money to build the server racks etc, But we plan to make this the biggest server possible and do way more than just this but yeah this is just a fraction of it. And Lol I know it sounds like a teenager Pipedream, but we were teens then but now were adults. XD

Are you colocating? Where will these servers be located? What kind of bandwidth do you have available there?

What kind of monthly operating budget are you prepared for?

Are you going to hire someone to maintain this for you? Because honestly it sounds like you have big dreams but no idea what you're getting yourself into.

You don't need racks and racks of servers. A single, dual processor server colocated in a datacenter would do everything you want to do now and for the near future.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Yes, At the moment until I get the area to put the servers were running it out of my garage for testing until we get it working, then we will be getting a facility, building, or warehouse to run the company.

Yes, we will be hiring people to run the company and run these servers as I have a lot of other stuff on my hands. And I will be making content and much more.

We do know what were doing, just learning more on servers to make this business a reality. We have been working on this for around 4 years just only managing servers we've created not built. Really complicating to explain to be honest, that's why I like to do calls, but yeah, were gonna be doing a lot of other servers too, just Minecraft being the main server we run. But it will be a massive server, with so much to do. Kind of like a all in one server, but the community can make their own game-modes and more.

Uhhh how much do you charge people for these servers that you can afford staff and a building?

And if you are running it in your garage, you are no colocating.

So what I mean is were making a minecraft server and more. We will also be running servers for people to run servers of their own. But were focused on making our minecraft server for people to play on. Its in the garage due to were testing first and working on it. Then we will get our own facility or whatever we do, and so on.

Not trying to be a jerk but there are a tremendous number of existing services that do this extremely inexpensively at massive scale already. What is your plan to differentiate?

You have some major competition. How are you going to do it better or cheaper than any of the other major services like linode or hetzner or amazon?

We'll figure that out down the line. But I'm asking for advise or help on what I should use, not weather or not it'll be successful or not. I don't care about competition or anything, I care about quality, and I'm gonna make it the best and cheap for hosting servers, But I'm more worried about the servers were gonna run not what other people want to run. So I'm trying to figure out the type of CPU's I should get. Plain and simple.

Well amazon doesn't do minecraft servers lol nor any game servers.

They do blank linux or windows servers. You can run whatever applications and software you want on them. It's up to you to decide what to user the server for. If you want a minecraft server, sure. If you want a database, fine.

Get a server rack first

Dell EMC Netshelter SX 42U Rack - 600mm Wide x 1070mm Deep | Dell USA

Then the servers themselves

This is a good one

PowerEdge R7615 Rack Server | Dell USA

You are looking at spending about 50k if you want 128gb of RAM + storage

If your goal is 50k players, you’re talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars of hardware not to mention supporting PPE.

At that level, you’re asking for information that is normally provided by a specialized consultant.

Now if you’re talking about expanding small scale, that’s different. What is your exact goal for the near future, 6-12months?

I know. It'll take some time, but I'm determined and I have a goal to achieve. I'll have to get all that going but first comes the testing.
