you could get trouble with transient spikes... forcing pc shutdowns via overcurrent protection.
Highest end 30series cards can be really picky.

Not really worth upgrading to something from that budget. You will only see an uplift of about 30ish %.

should set your goals higher and save up more before considering to upgrade. unless you want constantly trying to up-trade.

I personally wouldn't bother upgrading unless you get it for a killer deal, if you're looking at cards in the same generation.

The best 40 series card is the 4090.

I'd avoid AMD cards if it were my build, in my experience they tend to have more issues than Nvidia cards as far as drivers are concerned.

Is there a particular reason you want to upgrade?

What monitor are you running?

The card you have is more than enough then, you won't see improvements by buying a better one.

That's kind of a hard question to answer without anything to go on. You'd need to answer the following questions:

  1. What size monitor do you want?
  2. Where are you buying? Getting prices quoted in USD is useless you're buying in the US.
  3. What resolution do you want?
  4. What games do you play?
  5. Are you able to buy something used where you live?

May want to consider holding off and saving for an RTX 4080 or possibly waiting for RTX 5000 series.

Upgrading from one generation to the very next one at the same tier of card just seems like a bit of a waste if you ask me.

For all that money spent you will only get a 30% performance improvement, the only huge change here is the +50% VRAM which will help with your aim to play 1440p in the future.

The RTX 4080 is really expensive I know, but at least then you would be getting quite a massive upgrade plus double the VRAM and you could honestly hold onto that card for many years to come.

If you are just gaming with the cards or maybe simple workloads like video editing - you could try AMD. The RX 7900-XT is far more powerful than the RTX 4070, in fact it even beats the 4070-Ti, and also has 20GB of VRAM. Its less than 10% slower than the RTX 4080, but costs about 33% less.

Im not sure about pricing in your area but here in the states a 7900-XT can be had for a bit under $800 while the cheapest RTX 4080 is still over $1100.

I know all of these options are significantly outside your price range but I just can't see any reason to spend $600 upgrading from a 70 class card to another 70 class card thats only a single generation newer. An RX 7900-XT is a full 50% faster than the RTX 3070 even on some games that prefer Nvidia cards. When some games prefer AMD, its a full 90-100% faster.

Yes, I run the RX 7900-XTX off an 850-Watt Platinum.

The math works out like this:

12700K - 200 watts/ 250W OC

7900-XT - 320 watts/ 370W OC

+100 watts for fans, mobo, ECT.

Total system Power in the worst case scenario is 620 watts, 720 watts if you overclock to the absolute maximum.

@BLOS88 I am curious as well because I completely forgot there is a much more affordable alternative to both the RTX 4070-Ti and RX 7900-XT that was just released: AMDs new RX 7800-XT has finally launched.

Sure, its only a bit faster than the RTX 4070, but it would give you a decent uplift of about 40% overall in performance over your RTX 3070, and it comes with 16GB of VRAM, all for $500 here in the states.

That makes it a far better value than the RTX 4070 which would only give you a 30% uplift with 12GB of VRAM for $600.

I recommend upgrading when the difference is 50%+ in performance but I have to admit the 7800-XT is not a terrible option. It is also specifically designed to tackle 1440p, offering pretty high frame rates at Maxed-Out Ultra-Everything Settings or extremely responsive high refresh rate gaming at High Settings.
