Budget (including currency): $1700

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I will use it for mainly gaming and very light video editing.

Other details: I already ordered a 64GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD and a 360mm AiO.

Main reason I'm asking this is I'm unsure whether to choose AMD or Intel for my PC build.

My current planned build is this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6kmGcH(Seems costly as it factors in the cost of parts I already own, which isn't within the budget.).

Any advice on making the right decisions for strong performance? Your guidance is greatly appreciated!

It's not bad, but if you know you're over why did you buy 64GB of RAM and add a 3080Ti?

Cut down to 32GB RAM, reduce to a 7800XT or 6950XT and enjoy life.

Oh, and you don't need the thermal paste.  The AIO has some already applied.

Do you have a Microcenter nearby?

Why a 3080 ti?

I'd go for this build and refund the ram

Btw when we factor in the cost of the ram it amounts to the same budget

that 1700 dollar budget isn't including the ram, cooler and ssd price since they've already got those. I'd also go AMD and get some cl28 ripjaws s5. And then with that budget you can get a 7900 xtx like in my build

This build is over quite a lot of your USD1700 budget

In my opinion, if you're using i5 CPU, a B760 is still capable and cost less than your current Z790, even OC of your ongoing RAM of 6400MHz

And for GPU, instead of RTX 3080Ti, you can go for RTX 4070Ti that performs a bit better while cost less (RTX 3080 Ti costs USD1000 while RTX 4070Ti costs USD800)

Plus, depending on your video editing project and games, you may need to add more Storage, especially if you plan on modern AAA games

My System: Ryzen 7800X3D // Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX // 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 Silicon Power Zenith CL30 // Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT OC with mod heatsink on the metal plate  // Phanteks P300A  // Gigabyte Aorus GEN4 7300 PCIE 4.0 NVME // Kingston NV2 Gen4 PCIE 4.0 NVME //

You're over by almost $250.  I understand why but people have budgets for a reason.  Give him this is a goal to stretch to, but also include something that fits in his budget.

look at my edit and at the build in the OP's post. It is over by 400 because that's how much the ram, cooler and ssd costs. And if they refund their current ram and use that money to get the cl28 ram they'll be just over budget. And get a better experience too

So is the $1700 for the remaining parts or total build?

This isn't completely clear:

My current planned build is this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6kmGcH(Seems costly as it factors in the cost of parts I already own, which isn't within the budget.).

I take it to mean his cost of parts aren't within budget, meaning they are over budget.  My understanding of what he typed may be different than what he meant to say or what you read.  I could easily be wrong.  I am older, so my understanding may be one way.

Any advice on making the right decisions for strong performance? Your guidance is greatly appreciated!

Not sure why you would buy things before even planning what you are going to build...

I will say that most DDR5 systems do not play well with 4 sticks of ram and you will likely have to drastically decrease the speed of the ram. You should have bought 2x32gb kit if you wanted 64gb of ram as that would rum better on basically any DDR5 system. Also 360mm AIOs are overkill for most pc and usually way overpriced and have heavier pc case requirements. Also AIOs in general fail and you have to replace the whole thing but if you have a air cooler worst case scenario is a fan fails and you replace it with a new one for like 15 bucks vs you being out 100 dollars buying another AIO.

So is the $1700 for the remaining parts or total build?

remaining parts (that's what it seems to be since he's already bought the cooler, ram and ssd so they wouldn't be factored into the budget)

the build in the OP's post is including the price of the cooler, ram and ssd. So basically just deduct that price by 370 bucks

Thanks for the heads up

@OneTechBoiSince these parts are ongoing delivery, I won't suggest change on that related parts

Total cost of USD1544.65, I hope this could satisfy your build plan, and you're welcomed to criticize or ask for clarification

My suggestion notes:

1. CPU, since it seems focus more on gaming with video editing as side jobs, I would suggest AMD with AM5 platform

Because AMD is currently better in gaming while consume less power, plus since it's AM5, you can upgrade to newer CPU without replacing your motherboard in years later

I choose 7600X because I don't really know the kind of games and you long term upgrade needs, but aiming for 7800X3D is also a great choice, since it's the best gaming CPU in current gen

2. Removed Thermal paste because it already comes with your super cool AIO

3. I suggest B650 AORUS motherboard, it has a lot copper coating for cooling, tons of USB slots, and the fastest boot compared to other brand motherboard

4. I add Kingston NV2 2TB for secondary mass storage, it's cheap, especially when you ordered 1 TB for main Windows OS and game directory (unless you already have mass storage, you may ignore buying this)

5. As my previous post, I recommend RTX 4070Ti if you really only want for NVIDIA product since it costs less and performs better than RTX 3080 TI, but if you're willing to try on full AMD, Radeon RX 7900 XT is also a good choice

6. I take out Corsair fans, because your super cool PC case of choice already have fans attached on the front side. And I strongly suggest that you will install the AIO radiator on the top side of the PC case for optimal waterpump performance
