Suppose you're US, they're the only ones not thinking about telling it 😛

$850-$1250 is too wide a range, as $850 is entryest budget, $1250 is mid range ...

A little over budget but this is about the minimum that I would be looking to go with for a new build tbh

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/tGKJVW

PS I thought prices here in the UK were rough but geez

I was thinking about future upgradability, I love my AM4 system but we can now all admit despite AMDs assuring us that it isn't a dead platform, it's a dead platform.

I was talking about what I would buy today, and this is what I would go with to give the option of upgrading in future.

Well he can't afford the upgrade possibilities just yet, unless he comes up to almost 1500$.

The 5600 + 6700XT should last him years and then he can build AM6 or Intel later.  Upgrade paths are neat, but they're not the end all be all and it's becoming a term like bottlenecking or future proofing lately.

No problem I have a build of my own if i can show it to you the rtx 3060 ti will be bought of fb marketplace or ebay

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/qZnm89

I'm buying all of the components from the same retailer, should I get it from all of the different retailers or stick to the one?

It will be cheaper as it is around the lower price range of $770-$900 AUD.

Nothing wrong with that build. although I would look into a used 5000 gen processor to see if you can fit it in. As I said in my reply, personally I value having a good prospect of an upgrade path, but with that said, it comes at the downside of increased cost. I don't know your situation, so I can only say what I would do if I was building from scratch.

I could find a used 5000 series cpu but it is hard to find on fb marketplace as no-one sells cpus as much as gpus but it is very common on ebay bc it is a worldwide marketplace basically.

Try seeing if anyone who did a platform upgrade is selling CPU, board and Ram. I've saved quite a bit of money buying those kind of bundles before

Oh didn't say it wasn't a thing, just saying the concept shouldn't carry the weight it does.  Paying more now for a possible upgrade in the future?  It's not as amazing a concept.

It's not any better than saving money now and applying it to a mobo/RAM combo later.

It's an option, definitely.  It's just that it is thought of a lot as a defining way to build now, and while I understand it, I also don't think it pertains to most people.

I 100% give credit to your build and options you presented.  Something he should weigh against his budget and needs.
