The fact that AMD is displaying their incompetence so proudly these days is simply disappointing. The raw compute power difference between these two GCDs is 6%, yet the VRAM bandwidth difference is 31% for no good reason. The 7700 XT is set to consistently beat the 6800 and perhaps trade blows with the 6800 XT without that fourth MCD, so it's safe to assume that adding it back would make it a direct 6800 XT competitor. What does AMD do instead? Chop it off & price the 7700 XT like it's still there. Waiting for it to get cheaper won't change the fact that it will be locked to 1080p far earlier than it should be. This feels like the 7600 all over again... At least we're getting one decent mid-range option out of this generation. I hope that tolerance for this kind of nonsense is thoroughly reduced before Nvidia & AMD try to do it all over again.

Wait hold on, are you saying 7700XT is condemmed to be a 1080p card because it only has 12GB of VRAM? What are you smoking... back in the 1080 days people started getting into 4k territory. It'll be fine. I'd say the blame these days isn't shit VRAM card performance more that cost cutting in AAA game devs right now maskarades shit optimisation as just cards being "weak."

Wished the 7700XT was $50 cheaper to bump it from ok to really good territory. I assume that price cut will happen once the Starfield bundle promo ends.

I know it will be a while before the 7700 XT is 1080p locked; My point is that it will enter that stage prematurely relative to its silicon vs the 6800 / 6800 XT. Yes, some games are definitely not optimized well, but devs can't always take the blame when the market is always pushing for higher realism. Hopefully the 7700 XT will get an appropriate price cut before it starts struggling.

Not really no.
12GB is good enough for everything 4k today.

Just because in 5 years there will be half a dozen games that want more at 1440p, its not really a concern.

Remember boys and girls. Ultra settings are... dumb settings and should not be your benchmark if a game runs or not.

AMD have the same problem that nvidia and any other GPU maker has: there is an inherent link between VRAM bus and capacity.

The MSRPs for them to me is the bigger thing. I'd expect them to diverge in price but it remains to be seen how that works out, both relative to each other and the competition at the time.

7700 XT is designed to upsell people to the 7800 XT, same way the 7900 XT was for the 7900 XTX at launch.

In time the price on the 7700 XT will fall and it will become better value, just as with the 7900 XT.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I actually think the 7700XT price tag is merely a buffer and an increased fatter margin until NVIDIA drops the price of the 4060 series card, which according to Moore'sLawIsDead is exactly what NVIDIA is now planning on doing now that the 7700XT has been released. AMD will feast on that $50 increase untill they have to lower their price in response to NVIDIA, which they already accounted for.
