I just booted up my pc to play some games, I entered my password to log in in windows and when i did that, my screen artifacted and my pc powered off. I just build this pc 3 days ago, and i tought this was just some instability from dialing in the timings on my memory. But i cant get it to post, its an rog motherboard and it gives me “00” on the little display. I looked it up and it means that there is something wrong with the cpu. I tried clearing the cmos but nothing worked. What should i do?

it still powers on and my fans, memory and motherboard still give light but i cant get in the bios or windows.

(specs: ryzen 7 7800x3d, gskill trident z5 rgb 2x16gb ddr5@6400 28-36-36-96, asus rog crosshair x670e gene)

Specs? Artifacts are usually a sign of RAM, GPU or VRAM related issues not CPU.

I currently use my igpu, im getting a gpu next week and i can play light games like fortnite on it. That’s probably why it says something to do with the cpu.

i also forgot to say that i did a 400mhz Overclock on the igpu, but thats been totally stable for 3 days so i think its weird if thats the problem.

The iGPU on Ryzen 7000 doesn't work correctly when doing manual memory overclocking and should be disabled. That's why you were getting the artifacting.

The real issue here is that it's giving 00. That could mean anything from the CPU is dead to the board is throwing a fit for whatever reason. I do know there's a couple AM5 boards where Clear CMOS is broken for whatever reason, where you need to pull the CMOS batter out for a minute while the PSU is unplugged in order for it to properly clear. Not sure if the Gene is one of them, but it's worth checking at least.

Also, just to make sure, are you on the latest BIOS? The early pre-SOC voltage restriction BIOSes were known to kill CPUs out of the blue and do exactly this.

Yes, I updated it to the latest 1.0.0.7b, because it supports the high memory frequencys. I got 7000 stable on it.
And ill first try the cmos thing and then the cpu reseat.
Should I replace thermal paste? Its only ben on there for 3 days and i dont know if i have enough left.

I wouldn't bother, especially since you don't know if it'll fix it or not. There should be enough paste on there to at least get by, though if you notice temp issues after it's working then repaste.

Preferably. But really, keep your mouth shut unless asked.

alright, thanks. do i need to go to amd or to the retailer i bought this from?

Preferably retailer or distributor. Let them figure it out with the power of bulk volume, manufacturer RMA can be a pain. Hell, in some countries, its your right to do so.
