[Build Log] The "nothing-too-special" rig

Kukielka

Hey guys,

one of my friends asked me if I could build him a rig and gave me 850€ (~1050$), he will use the pc mainly for gaming, watching movies and office stuff.

So here is what I came up with.

CPU: Intel Core i3- 4130

Mobo: MSI B85-43 Gaming

GPU: MSI GTX 760 Gaming

SSD: Kingston v300 120gb

HDD: WD Green 2tb

Ram: Kingston Beast 2x4gb 1600 CL9

PSU: Corsair CX 500W

Case: Corsair's "Bane" case

CPU-Cooler: The good ol' Hyper 212 Evo

Drive: Generic Blu-Ray Drive

Monitor: BenQ GL2250HM

I'll throw in some of my spare casefans to keep everything well cooled and thats pretty much it :D

I keep you guys updated with pics once all the parts arrived, i'll maybe do a little build-livestream, we will see I guess :D

Constructive critism is always allowed!

My Rig "Jenova" Ryzen 7 3900X with EK Supremacy Elite, RTX3090 with EK Fullcover Acetal + Nickel & EK Backplate, Corsair AX1200i (sleeved), ASUS X570-E, 4x 8gb Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3800MHz 16CL, 500gb Samsung 980 Pro, Raijintek Paean

Looks pree decent other than the i3, I personally would never get an i3 as AMD has better alternatives imo.

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

He gave you 850 and you got an i3? why not an i5?

Yea AMD would be better than that i3 if i5 is out of the question

I've gone with the i3 and the gtx 760 because of the lower power consumption and the higher single threaded performance.

Also hardware aint that cheap in germany :D

Had to say sorry to team red :/

The cheapest i5 is about 70€ more expensive than the i3, the money wont just cope it.

Edit: I'm talking to him right now if he can throw in 70 bucks more for the i5

Is the x4 760k really better than the i3-4130 in games?

Btw, it seems like a 1tb hdd is more than enough for him. guess the i5 aint far away :D

short answer: yes, the 760k is better than the i3

long answer: the 760k is a lot better than the i3 in multithreaded applications and in todays standards, 4 cores is a must for a "gaming" pc. if he doesn't want an amd cpu, tell him to get at least an i5 because in 1-2 years(at most) his cpu(the i3) is going to bottleneck his rig

Is a game even utilizing more than one core? Seems like the i5-4440 is the way to go now.

the 760k it's about as good as the i5-4440 but a lot cheaper so I would say that he should get the 760k
