Wait for the 15. And then if the 15 isn't great then get a refurbed 13 discounted or get a new discounted 14

Id wait to see what they do with the 15. Likely older models will be discounted. There are rumors that prices might be a bit higher on the newer version. I was considering upgrading my XR to a 15 pro for a better camera. But I might run my XR till the battery goes. Im at about 85% battery health, so I figure I go some time.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

If all of your apps work, and there aren't compatibility issues yet, just keep what you have.

I think it is a complete scam to continuously upgrade even every six years.  What would be nice is if (and Apple will never allow it) the camera could be upgraded, battery replaced, software (even at a $200 fee) could be upgraded to a new version.

We need more than just TRILLION dollar profit Apple and BILLION dollar profit Google running things.  We need competition, and I think it's obvious to everyone now that the only reason you can't buy a Fairphone in the United States and have it work is because someone got a shitload of money to make sure it is not compatible.

Reading the news about it, in the last week of June this year, the fairphone 4 is finally available in the U.S., just with no Google branded programs, which I think is excellent.

You don't think there is a market for a device with removable battery, upgradable camera, expandable storage, and so far, seven years of software support for the Fairphone 2.

Fairphone 3 (the business released the fourth model about a year ago) now has Android 13 which is newer than what a vast majority of new android devices are able to receive, and there are discussions of extending support to 2026.  This will allow support from 2019 til then, another seven years of support.

Also, if the bootloader can be unlocked, you could install LineageOS for even longer software support.

It has been proven that a tiny company can provide more than six years of updates, and until there is real market pressure, Apple and Google can force the upgrade cycles.  They can provide longer support but greed blinds their souls.

Windows 11 will just force business to "recycle" "obscolete" hardware.  Microsoft definitely isn't bothered by this at all, and seems to want hardware produced just a few years ago to be considered obsolete.  They have also not shown any interest nor has any other company in a similar financial position, to help increase tech recycling whatsoever.  Windows 12 might be cloud-based and be a monthly or yearly fee.

F-droid is a place to install open-source software for android, Antennapod, RethinkDNS, Fennec which is Firefox with about:config, lots of performance and other changes available, mozilla KB has a huge database of what most of the settings do.  Most software in the repository only requires Android 5 and 6!

I recommend firewall apps (blocks apps) and dns filters (redirect all dns requests on android, to your choice of dns, even if overridden).  RethinkDNS is my pick and I set it to use pi-hole, installed inside Ubuntu/Debian, which is inside Virtualbox, until I go to a website, nothing at all connects to any other server.  I also use NextDNS.io to do the same when away from home wi-fi or even cellular!  I can even tether from cellular to any device sharing via wi-fi, and block anything with dns set to NextDNS, regardless if the device allows changing dns.  This style of network filtration is being overridden by software updates on some devices, forcing a backup dns provuder, such as google dns, when built in dns requests are not connecting.  Without a complete firewall setup, dns redirection itself is no longer always effective.
