Hello guys

I want to buy a new gpu rtx 3080ti used, and probably it was used in mining, the guy said it was in storage for long time and has some white stuff on the heat sink (not rust).

My question is will this specific gpu be able to run on my pc (ps 600w), and won't be destroyed due to ps not strong enough?

On nvidia website they said card is 350 w, but recommended ps is 750w.

My pc:

I7 12700k

Ram 32

Ps 600 w

2 nvme ssd

1 hdd

Mb asus tuf 690 z

any advice is highly appreciated

Thanks

600W is definitely low. If it is a very high quality PSU it might work just fine and even if not, you can use it, as long as you undervolt your GPU enough.

With no undervolting, you wouldn't destoy your parts, using a insufficient PSU, it is very unlikely. The computer will start and boot, but it would probably crash as soon as it is getting too much load. I recommend ~850W for "noname" PSU, with a little bit of quality 750W will also do.

I'd always recommend not to save money on the PSU. If you buy a high quality 1000W PSU, it will work forever and you can use it for builds for many many years. Seasonic for example selling their PSUs with 12years warranty.

The card could be ok if you test it well enough with OCCT and Furmark, plus running a few games on it real quick. I would test it for a full hour before paying.

As for the PSU question, I would not try that. Your PSU is probably a little old already with some efficiency loss. The recommended PSU for a 3080ti is 750w, I would respect that.

What psu? The model please.

Unless its a epic quality unit its going to be a flat no on running that 3090 (thats what a 3080ti is a 12gb 3090) isnt going to ever run on that.

Oh i see

It's a corsair psu, not rated or anything  😞

I don't know the Raidmax Cobra. The reviews seems alright and will probably work, but I can't see, if the RPM is controlled, or if it had a Zero RPM mode (if you like it silent 😉 ).

Also, it is not compatible to new PCIE devices, like the 40xx GPUs, only with adapters (for future builds).

I can't emphasize enough, how important it is to get quality. I have tried a Cooler Master 750W PSU for a very similar build and it was crashing like hell. Changed to a Corsair 750W, like 10usd more expensive and since then it never crashed again 😄

Yes but which one?

However if it alread doesnt have an efficiency rwting that means its one of the really cheap shitty ones so flat no

It was BAD 10 years ago and its far worse now. This will die with a 3080ti and most likely kill the rest too

efficiency ratings do not equal quality at all.

A rm(x)850w is what I would recommend here.

As the above posters have said the GPU is probably ok , The PSU is definitely not ok.

If you go A tier a Corsair HX750w is fairly cheap but probably best to go for something 850w.
