Ok troops,

Just when I thought I was making progress, my MSI Z390 Meg Ace is now throwing a D6 (No Console Output Detected) error.

These last few days have been a total nightmare starting with this system (9900k + 3080ti + MSI Z390) throwing a complete wobbler. Was playing Kena Bridge of Spirits then all of a sudden, black screen and nothing. After forcing a restart, Windows Error Logging showed a nvlddmkm.sys had stopped responding and successfully restarted so my first port of call was the GPU. I fired up Kena again to try and replicate the issue however I didn't even get to the game main menu before the system black screened however, this time 9 blue dots appeared in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

At first I thought my 3080ti was a gonner but the next day when I was at work, my girlfriend who was playing Deathloop texted to say that her PC had also died in exactly the same was way. Her PC is a 8086k + 2080ti + Z390 Aorus. I mean, what are the chances that 2 GPUs died within 24 hrs.

Both PCs would occasional successfully boot to Windows but it would generally be seconds before the dreaded black screen + 9 dots. After a few of these, I was aware that the PC was still running just without display so again, I was now thinking both my GPUs had somehow died.

The next day, I reinstalled Windows on the 8086k + 2080ti system and its been running perfectly for a couple of days now so I tried the same tactic with the 9900k + 3080ti... It seemed to work for a while but after getting all the updates installed I hit it with Furmark and it fell over with a few seconds. Still thinking dead 3080ti at this point.

To put that idea to bed, I drain the loop, take out the GPU and plonk it in one of my many spare systems. This time its an old 3770k but I just needed to get it up and running and hit it with a load. I gave it over 60 mins of Furmark at 4k and no issues.

I now whack the 3080ti back in the MSI Mobo and now I'm getting a D6 error. WTF!

So I drain the loop (again!) and plonk in a spare GT1030 kinda hoping for the D6 error but NOOOOOOOOOO, it boots just fine.

At the time of the last crash the 3080ti wasn't overclocked but I had just set an undervolt.

I kinda thought maybe it was the undervolt that had caused the instability but more often than not the black screen would hit just after the BIOS splash screen so that's well before Windows had successfully loaded anything including Afterburner.

The only other thing I have yet to explore is the possibility its a dodgy riser cable as the case is a Hyte Y60 and I've got the GPU sitting vertically.

Any ideas guys cos I'm running out of them fast!

P.S. - MSI Z390 Meg Ace doesn't have any HDMI or DP out so I can't test with iGPU.
