Hello,

Currently updating my system, and going with the new 7800X3D. There are just so many options in terms of motherboards, so I am a bit lost. My current choice was the:

ASRock X670E PG Lightning ATX AM5 Motherboard

the reason I'm choosing this over the others is it has PCIe x16 Gen 5.0 slot and I do not see the point in going for the ones as there does not seem to be any major benefits that I remember (this is why I'm asking, cant tell if I am being dumb). So please let me know if this fine or if I am being stupid

Thank you for your time and advice

If you think you need PCIE Gen 5 for the GPU, you dont.  We are barely seeing PCIE 3 as a bottleneck and that came out in 2010.

Thank you, I was thinking of going either the popular choices on PC part picker of either the Gigabyte or MSI B650 but this one was the same price with PCIe gen 5.0. only cheaper option I found were micro atx motherboards. Do you think I should go with the normal b650 or for the price do get the asrock? Thank you again for your advice

The MSI B650 Tomahawk and the Gigabyte aorus b650 elite ax are both excellent boards.  I have experience with both, great boards.
I am personally very happy with my ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI, I dont feel I need anything else. I will put in a 8800X3D wheneve released in 2-3 years time and upgrade my RTX 4080 to a 6080, I dont feel I am missing out on anything by going B650 and no pcie 5.  Here is a MASSIVE article from Hardware Unboxed on youtube, he went through 35x B650 motherboards. There is a video if you prefer watching that instead of reading 🙂  Hope this helps, its a lot ton of information but worth digging through.

This guys life is -  Benchmark, eat, sleep, repeat 24/7. And we love him for it.
