as a windows licence you could try the code on one of the stickers on your laptop. I once had a laptop from IBM that had it's licence key on it. I don't know what it's currently like, it was 8 years ago.

It's not for a laptop. I have the sticker attached to the side panel of my old case. I changed cases but kept the HDD's and all the hardware. I just want to change from my Raid 0 array of 2 500GB HDD's to a single 500GB SSD.

I will post an update if I come across any problems when migrating. Even if I don't get any problems I will post in here saying whether or not it was a success or a failure.

Yes this works because windows on laptops and desktops from major companies aren't activated with the same code. They are activated with a manufactures code, then you get your code you paid for on the bottom of your computer in case you ever need it. Most codes go unused because people don't know this. Just save your codes from your laptops and you can use them on future builds as long as the os you install is the same.

I have decided to just start from fresh. Eg. take out all my HDD's and stick in my single SSD and install W7 onto it. It will take a while to get everything back onto my PC but I will probably download all the installers onto an external HDD. It might go faster tat way.
